Spreading the “gospel” of be-ing and connecting to aliveness.
Still pertinent (ever more so) ..."As [Martin Luther] King notes, the status quo is always changing, and the centrists are often resistant to change that expands rights and justice, more mild about efforts by the right to shrink those things in favor of more inequality and more authoritarianism."
Stop glorifying ‘centrism’. It is an insidious bias favoring an unjust status quo | Rebecca Solnit
The notion of a neutral and moderate middle is a prejudice of people for whom the system is working, against those for whom it’s not

Virginia. Prisoners setting themselves on FIRE because of deplorable conditions (this prison has been on Human Rights Watch since 1998!) “More than 2/3 of its inmates are held in solitary confinement for 23 hours a day, ranging from two weeks to 14 years. One inmate spent over 600 days in solitary”

Elon Musk claims DOGE has saved $55 billion, but the numbers don’t add up. DOGE released a list of canceled contracts totaling $16 billion in supposed savings. However, nearly half of that came from an $8 billion ICE contract—except that contract was actually worth just $8 million.

🧵🧵🧵 Here are major media’s favorite euphemisms to avoid describing Trump as “fascist” or “authoritarian”:
/ “Boundary-testing agenda” (WaPo)
/ “An aggressive flexing of power” (NYT)
/ “Testing the limits of presidential power” (ABC)
/ “Trump tries a softer tone — and a harder one, too” (WaPo)

Crisis coverage also requires a dramatic change in language. No more euphemisms and passive voice. It’s time for strong words and active verbs.

It requires authoritative reporting. No splitting the difference between two sources when one of them is misinformed or misleading…”

Along with many many people, I’ve been freaking out and at the same time trying to figure out how I will fight fascism and help others in the coming times. My impulse to this is overwhelming, and then I remembered that my ancestors were resistance fighters in northern Italy during WWII and Mussolini
