Kid: When you're reading you're looking at tattoos on dead trees and hallucinating.

Me *looking up from writing*: Does that mean I'm currently tattooing a dead tree?

Kid: Yes!

"Do you always introduce yourself like this?"
"No. Generally I don't speak to anyone at all."
"I'll feel special then."
"Don't. I'm only talking to you because there is no polite way to ignore you when you've dragged me from my home and across the state."

This is one of my favorite, low-tech, ways of visualizing the past! Doesn't oversell the reconstruction, shows possible past and present in same view, works, rain or shine and without power.
An interesting way to help people visualize what a ruin used to be.

Astronomer: In this work, we propose HoFITCh (HOw Full Is That Cup), a Bayesian model for sampling the fullness of cups from imaging data and prior beliefs.

We sample the posterior of our model, and find that the cup is 50±2% full.

Pessimist: The cup is half empty

Writer: …did I have a plan for this cup? Was it supposed to link to some other part of the plot? Crap. I really don’t want to go through and take every mention of the cup out. Maybe I can kill someone with it.

My son once asked me... Dad, what's the difference between a dog, and a marine biologist. Being a dad, and fond of dad jokes, my mind was whirling, but I came up empty. He just grinned and said. A dog wags tails... and walked away.
