In Rust, we don't say:

"you forgot to run fmt with +nightly"

instead we say:

Warning: can't set `imports_granularity = Item`, unstable features are only available in nightly channel.

and I think that's beautiful

Samply is such a nice straightforward sampling profiler. So glad to add this to my toolkit.

A programmer can have a function painted any color that they want so long as it is async.

i think React shies away a bit too much from acknowledging its FP heritage. it's partially because you don't want to alienate people, and FP with its terminology is often alienating

but like.. i think it makes sense to acknowledge React is still fundamentally FP. that's why it's weird and wonderful

This is a written version of my talk at #RustConf 2025, where I talk about the joys and sorrows of future cancellations in Rust, with lessons from our work at @oxide.computer. Includes a video of the talk as well. Check it out!

FYI, I got an obvious phishing attempt in my inbox from `security@rustfoundation.dev` that was masquerading as a security breach notification. It made it past gmail's spam filters.

The link goes to the `github.rustfoundation.dev` domain.

I love that the theater industry is increasingly using big movie names to drive attendance.

However, it is also making it very difficult for me to get Public Theater tickets for Shakespeare in the Park this year

Underappreciated part of JJ. It also means you reach competency faster, because you can fearlessly try new commands or new techniques without worrying about destroying work.
I’ve been using jj for a year and a half but I still have a moment of panic when I screw something up before remembering I can just undo.

Passkeys also seem to have mostly killed the two-factor auth education narrative for "normal people".

It's mostly a step up from passwords. It's not as good as a password and a hardware auth key.
I'm still not particularly happy about passkeys and figured I might want to share my thoughts on why. lucumr.pocoo.org/2025/9/2/pas...

The hidden benefit of Dvorak is the instant kinship you feel when you sit down at someone's computer and realize they too made a weird decision in their life.

It's happened twice.
I just put online the chapter from my book that talks about all the myths and mysteries about QWERTY and Dvorak.
