Using Treasury's estimates of the daily cost of alert levels and the Oxford Stringency Index in other OECD countries I estimated how much it would have cost to implement other strategies over 2020-22. My conclusion: our response saved lives and was one of the most cost effective in the OECD.

What I also want to know is why proper reporting like this is behind a paywall while the lies these harmful arseholes spread get splashed everywhere. Well, we know why. It’s horrific that the media companies are so complicit in this.
Despite enduring a constant stream of false and malicious rumours throughout this term, I’ve chosen to stay focused on our city’s progress. Now, mayoral candidates who have helped spread these rumours are standing for election. This behaviour is not acceptable and voters deserve to know. #nzpol

I like to post this as a reminder that we can’t always believe what we see ~ clever use of the conventions of perspective means that most of us perceive this as a gate leading to a 3-D gated passageway. But actually, it’s just a gate (Gymnasium Theresianum, Vienna)

There are over 18,000 types of lichen in existence. My personal favourite is ‘village bench lichen’, which devotes its entire existence selflessly to gradually making communal public seating more furry and comfortable.
