What do I do if this is my first rodeo?
Parental controls on the Chromecast with Google TV are just bad.
1. The setup process was flaky and required typing in my password on the TV
2. I can't remotely set screen time limits. I don't get notified about time extensions.

Using wide-band radio we should "geofence" smartphones to disable them in the driver's seat.

It would take California or EU to force Apple, Google, and Big Car to implement this.

Seattle knows how to do Shared Streets and this should become the new standard for all non-arterial streets in the city, thanks to SB 5595 that went into law this year. Look at how many trees were added as a result of this upgrade.

This is interesting — a recent study of mode share (the % share of transportation trips by car, transit, walking, biking etc) relative to city size and income levels in almost 800 cities in 61 countries. Interesting results. HT @davidzipper.bsky.social

the american electoral system is basically 500,000 information-resistant people across a handful of states taking a guess and then going "haha! oops!" every two years. this process takes 18 months and costs four trillion dollars every time

The fresh horror btw: the US is becoming a net importer of food.

Which is wild, because the US has probably the most high-quality farmland per person of any country on the planet. WHAT ARE WE DOING HERE FOLKS???

This is Marco Rubio explaining how the USA promised to defend Ukraine forever if they got rid of their nuclear arsenal left after the Soviet Union fell.

This is why lil marco was sinking into the couch. He was hoping we wouldn’t find it…so don’t RT right now this very second.

Seattle’s ambitious goals:

- 0 traffic deaths or injuries in 5 years

- net zero CO2 vehicle emissions in 25 years

- 37% VMT reduction in 19 years

- 63% of all trips by foot, bike or transit in 19 years

Let’s see if we meet those!

population: 57k
traffic deaths since 2017: zero
That is 44 deaths below US average in that period.
