As a kid, I was enthralled by tales of knights (King Arthur & co. in particular) as well as The Hobbit, and then a friend had the first Wizardry and it was like, "Here, you can (kinda sorta) 'be' all that..."

Young me didn't know what this chain and others like it did to local shops - to that oblivious kid, Bookstop was basically Xanadu, books as far as the eye could see.
(I guess the brand endured a while after the 1989 B&N buyout, but I never saw one again and it remains rooted in the '80s for me)
