Since the very beginning of the Mariposa journey, we've always donated funds to support the valuable conservation work of @bsbibotany.bsky.social after every #orchid tour we run. No exceptions, no caveats, no question. We're looking forward to sharing our tours with BSBI members this weekend.

My natural history book of the year is ‘Urban Plants’ by @trevorthebotanist.bsky.social
Informative, entertaining and inspiring - after reading it you will never walk down a street, pass by a wall or look at a grass verge in the same way again. Highly recommended @bsbibotany.bsky.social

Huge thanks to everyone who shared their planty finds for tonight's #WildFlowerHour!
As the weather turns more wintery, how many of our wild & naturalised plants will manage to keep flowering?
Let's meet up again next Sunday 8pm to compare notes.
Until then, have a great week!
A wintry week(end) with snow and a touch of frost. Plenty of pretty stuff to share for this week’s #Thewinter10 #WildflowerHour

There are a lot of sources online that say Shetland is home to the endemic species Edmondston's Chickweed.

This is not the case - instead the island of Unst is the only global site for Cerastium nigrescens var. nigrescens, an endemic *variety* of the Artic Mouse-ear.

This roundabout is on my route from the railway station to town centre in Bury. Ragwort grows between the tracks at the station. Not easy to get close but think this may be the reservoir of the plant in the town! Narrow-leaved Ragwort, Senecio inaequidens, #WildflowerHour at #BuryStEdmunds station.

The second Rubus hybrid seen with #NorfolkFloraGroup today was Rubus ulmifolius x vestitus, a common hybrid worth knowing. Intermediate with parents: hairy purple primocanes, rounded terminal lobes with white undersides. Inflorescences typically not developing fruit.

Despite the season it was a good day for brambles with #NorfolkFloraGroup This is one of the Rubus x loganobaccus group hybrids which include Loganberry - raspberry x one of the fruticosus agg, in this case the second parent is probably Rubus hindii. They have raspberry-like leaves & bramble stems

There were a few species I wrote about in Endemic whose precise locations I needed to swear to keep secret.

One of these was the location of one of the last wild Great Orme Berries, Cotoneaster cambricus. There are only *six* truly wild plants left on the planet, all on the Great Orme.
