Architecture is the name we give to all the physical and mental feelings we have in a built place.

Architecture is also a conscious joining of elements aimed at a meaningful whole.

I do this at Studioartec and Discourse Architecture.

The fresco restoration work marks the culmination of a series of interventions we have carried out on this sanctuary since 2006.
In 2008, I designed an extension to the church and we restored the adjoining house.
In 2011, we designed an access path for wheelchair users.
And now, the frescoes.

Interesting article
With ambitions for regenerative architecture increasing, it is vitally important that we measure the right things in trying to get there, say Barnabas Calder and Florian Urban

"Level ground" is perhaps intended as connection with the surroundings? It seems a phenomenological approach to inhabiting, to me. The understanding of a place through the act of building.

“For a house,
the good thing is level ground.
In thinking,
depth is good.
The good of giving is magnanimity;
of speaking, honesty;
of government, order.
The good of work is skill,
and of action, timing.”

If I have one tip for people coming to Scotland, it’s this - slow down. Take the back roads. Don’t rush from the airport or the ferry to get up north.

There’s so much to see on the way. Here’s Forres, Dundee, Fife, and Angus.

In our restoration work, the plaster chippings made on the frescoes to allow for the plastering that completely covered them in the 19th century have largely been retained, except for the execution of some rigatino reintegrations on the faces and hands of the depicted figures.

Here are a few photos of the completed fresco restoration work once the scaffolding has been taken down.

We will commission a professional photo shoot, of course.

More to follow.

in honor of the reopening of the met breuer, sotheby's, its new tenant, let me write the introductory text on brutalism and its many afterlives www.sothebys.com/en/articles/...
How Brutalism Became Both a Utopian Dream and a Dystopian Meme
Brutalism, an architectural movement associated with state power and science fiction, is perpetually misunderstood – yet it has left an indelible imprint on popular culture.

I've recently started volunteering with this group in S London. It's a welcome antidote for anyone despairing at the state of the world. It's a small gesture but if it means one more dragonfly cruising though Catford next summer I think that's a worthwhile outcome!
