Just an English guy hoping for some common sense to return to the world. Sick of the lies!
Fond of good grammar, bikes, cats, hills, gardens, bumblebees and photography. Amongst other things.
I really like Bluesky and was happy to find it some time ago once I'd left the other place. But and I can't post replies or create posts on my phone - I'm doing this on a laptop. I emailed Bluesky help but their suggestions weren't very promising and didn't help. How do I get some proper help?!!!

This is grim & dangerous over reach.

This is a government that have lost the moral argument & are still selling arms to Israel. Now further cracking down on dissent.

Absolutely the opposite of what they should be doing - so of course this is what the Labour Government choose.
NEW: Home Office announces planned new anti-protest powers, mainly aimed at pro-Gaza protests like those for Palestine Action. Police will be able to consider the "cumulative impact" of repeated protests and potentially order that they be relocated.

Can anyone explain why the Government is still doing most of its communications through a website whose owner is now openly rallying the far right to trigger a violent insurrection on our streets?

Since Milei took over, consumer spending is down 20%, construction is down 30%, and 53% of people in Argentina live in poverty - up from 42%. Yet all we hear is about his "success".

‘A society that lets the rich get richer while kids go hungry, and old people die waiting for care, is broken. Rachel Reeves: fix it. Tax us.’
Please Rachel, tax me more!
My wealth came through hard work, luck, but also a supportive state. I should be paying back. Rachel Reeves should be taxing me more

Anyone who wants to know about Gove and his total lack of integrity just needs to look back at interviews with him, or read Rory Stewart's memoir where Gove reveals himself to be a total snake. And that's an insult to snakes.

"My colleague Pecksniff recently asked the question:

‘Why, in one of the ten richest countries in the world, do we feel so poor. Where did the money go?’

The answer is easy: it went to the rich.

But that is only the beginning of the issue. How did it happen, and what do we want to do about it?"
Taxing wealth is better than a wealth tax
Inequality of wealth matters more than inequality of income. We should tax the rich more. But a blanket wealth tax is not the solution.

Another corrupt politician who should be in jail.
Matt Hancock used his personal email account to help a 'VIP' supplier win a £25 million PPE Covid contract

The company, which supplied the NHS with tens of millions of pounds worth of completely unusable PPE, later went bust, owing taxpayers millions

It’s 2025 so please can people stop saying the following -

- Brexit was the ‘will of the people’ (it was the will of 52% of those who voted in 2016).

- what about misandry? (In convos about misogyny)

- U.K. shouldn’t do anything about climate change until China does.

Bore off back to 2017.

Great article, summing up a lot. Apologies to any 'reasonable' Americans, but Che Guevara was right when he said that the US was "the enemy of mankind"... Of course other countries including Britain behaved appallingly in previous centuries too. What the hell is wrong with the human race?

Well worth reading. In my opinion, the current US administration is so far from even remotely reasonable that any countries with half decent values need to stick together... against the common enemy.

Trump's blocking of intelligence and satellite imagery that Ukraine was using to defend itself is the final straw. The rest of the world needs to boycott and even sanction the US until Trump does the right thing. Impractical I guess but ultimately necessary - he must be stopped.
