This policy is the ultimate expression of what is wrong with the last three decades of technocratic liberalism. It hands public money to bad private sector actors. It will win over zero of the reactionary voters it is supposed to mollify. It will massively annoy every other voter in the process.

Any elected Dem who expresses anything more sympathetic than “eat shit in hell you fascist fuck” should be treated with suspicion.
If they’re worried about a bad reaction they can stay silent or deflect and talk about working families and the economy or something like they always do on tough issues

When it happens I understand Dems in government will feel compelled to release some sort of statement. I just hope it’s the lamest most generic condolence statement ever. Something along the lines of “I’m sorry that’s how he died”

Watching ICE chase, tackle, and (usually) whisk into a van anyone who looks a certain way is the most literal and visceral reminder possible that policing in the United States has its roots in runaway slave patrols.
