Yes. If DHS can barge in, say your visa was revoked, be told you have a green card, say it's revoked too, and then disappear you so that neither your lawyer nor your family can find you, then all the guardrails are gone. There is no policy, practice, or law protecting anyone.

FDR SOTU 1944 - prophetic:

… if … we were to return to the so-called "normalcy" of the 1920's—then it is certain that even though we shall have conquered our enemies on the battlefields abroad, we shall have yielded to the spirit of Fascism here at home."

Trump is attacking the FBI and his supporters use the rationale that it’s necessary because people no longer trust the FBI - conveniently ignoring that people don’t trust the FBI because Trump and his ppl have spent years attacking it

I want to tell @EricReinhart how outraged and offended I am that the opinion piece he wrote for my newspaper @latimes.com was edited to change its meaning. I am so so sorry that this happened. And I happen to agree that making RFK Jr. hed of HHS is a mass casualty event waiting to happen.

“The Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921, in which a prosperous Black neighborhood in Oklahoma was destroyed and up to 300 people were killed, was not committed by an uncontrolled mob but was the result of “a coordinated, military-style attack” by white citizens.”

Me: Dr. Salk your vaccine will save so many children!

Salk: Well thank God

Me: Of course they will grow up

Salk: Well I hope so

Me: And get old

Salk: I guess?

Me: And eventually vote for lunatics who will try to stop your vaccine

Salk: what now

Me: And leave NATO

Salk: shit

Even people we’ve disagreed with bitterly on fundamental issues can come together around the idea Trumpists are shitty, broken people.
I don’t personally know Rep. Nancy Mace or Rep. Sarah McBride, and I can’t say I’ve thoroughly researched their biographies or political views. But I’ve seen enough in recent days to say this: I am very grateful to be of the party of Sarah McBride, and not that of Nancy Mace.

If you are interested in free speech or defamation issues, read this.
A Stanford student got in a car accident that killed two people and was charged with crimes. After the victims' families wrote to Stanford about it, saying he should be disciplined, he sued them and tried to use the suit to silence their advocacy. Yesterday he lost. This is the story.
