In my 3rd year as a lawyer, the firm I was with merged with another practice. At a dinner, the new partner, commenting on associate hours, “all associates are fungible.” I told him he was wrong, and that was no way to treat people. I left the next day and hung my shingle.

Agreed. My 60+ years as a reader and subscriber are coming to an end once my paid year runs out. Investing my reading time and resources into journalism not controlled by wealthy supplicants bending their collective knees.
