Adams is available for the #Rockets.

Reed Sheppard is in the starting lineup with the regular 4. Will be interesting if this is the start of something! #NBAsky

Rockets starters today:
Reed Sheppard
Amen Thompson
Jabari Smith Jr
Kevin Durant
Alperen Sengun

It's been a surprisingly light schedule for the #Rockets to start the year. I haven't looked at the schedule in detail but I assume there's going to be some pain in the back half to make up for it...
22 NBA teams playing tonight and the #Rockets aren't one of them, 16 NBA teams playing tomorrow and the #Rockets aren't one of them.

Sigh 😞

As I was saying, these #Hornets are fun to watch! Some rookies playing well beyond their years to get the win against the #Raptors. Interesting that we didn't see Ball at all in the closing minutes or OT, but Knueppel/James/Bridges/Miller/Diabate got it done!
I've found myself watching a lot of the #Hornets early this season - thinking about making them my second team. There's a lot of players to like: Diabate an Kalkbrenner in the middle, Sexton is fun, I like what I've seen from Knueppel so far. Ball's weirdness can be entertaining too!

Been a very busy week for me so I haven't been able to put down my thoughtson recent #Rockets games. But I do have some general observations from the last few games against the #Magic and #Nuggets!

Very good win for the #Rockets against the #Blazers the other night! Entertaining, too! I'm a bit late to the party, but a few thoughts in a thread: 🧵

#Rockets managed to pull out a win last night against the #Bucks. Great comeback to get the victory, with lots of interesting subplots! Some thoughts in a thread: 🧵

Ooof, YouTube comments are not happy about Sengun's game-sealer against the #Bucks not being in the Top 10! www.youtube.com/watch?v=-vcG... @nbabeau.bsky.social might have missed one here (or maybe there's just a ton of Turkish people upset? I get it wasn't a typical top 10 kind of play).

Tough loss for the #Rockets against the #Spurs in their first NBA Cup game of the year. There were some good things to take away, but also some worrying trends. A few thoughts in a thread: 🧵

Glad to see Jalen Green is having a decent outing in his Suns debut. He may not be a Rocket anymore but I'm still rooting for the kid

Making those guys cover Adams instead of Sengun is kind of the secret sauce that makes the double big lineup work so well.

#Rockets with another win against the #Grizzlies last night! Grizz have got injury and discontent clouds swirling around, but it was still a good win. Some thoughts in a thread: 🧵

Bit more of a grind for the #Rockets against the #Mavericks, but they were still able to pick up the win. Thought there were some interesting tactical and strategic things coming out of the game, will put them in a thread: 🧵

(Does tagging #NBASky get these to more people? Let's experiment!)

Anyone have a good breakdown on what the Suns did to shut down Wemby? Was it just an off night, or did they figure out something that worked?

So my take is that Josh Okogie is the perfect guy as the other guard for this team in this moment. We get all of the upside of an Amen and Sengun lead offense with a Kevin failsafe. And are only faced with some easily mitigated downsides (8 seconds of anxiety, turnovers). This may be true all year.

I love the Steven Adams double-big groups for the Rockets (& his bench flurries of crashing the glass are a spectacle) but moving Okogie to the starting lineup was a great pivot.

It's just more overall balance: a 2nd player you can deploy at the PoA or as a chaser and you always -

Hat tip to Josh Okogie for another excellent all around game. Relentless defensive effort, canning his threes, can't ask for more! There was one excellent defensive sequence in the third where he hounded the ball handler, wore down the clock and then Jabari finished it with a block. Great stuff!

#Rockets with the emphatic win over the #Celtics last night to get back above .500. Cs definitely looked tired out there with a big rest disadvantage, but still a very nice win for Houston! Some thoughts in a thread: 🧵

I'm prety confident that other teams will be watching that tape. Dillon Brooks had success with a particular technique last year and then other teams adopted it. Right now teams are going to be grasping at anything that might stand a chance of working.
Not getting too deep here because it comes a couple of days late and it could be nothing, I am curious about how many lessons from the way Bam Adebayo matched up with Wembanyama that might be relevant to how teams will come to play the Spurs.

This is a cool article! I like it when you get glimpses into how teams motivate their players to get better like this.
The Rockets were the NBA's worst free-throw shooting team in 24-25. So far this season, they're top 10 in FT% and lead the NBA in free throws per game.

Why are they improving? Because they're contractually obligated to practice.

Rockets lay it on the line with free-throw contracts. So far, so good this year
After struggling mightily last season at the line, Rockets coaches had players promise in writing to practice free throws. It's paying off so far this season.

Another Sengun post up with KD one pass away, another double team from the Raptors and Jabari Smith once again drives a closeout and scores. Create an advantage and make the defense pay.

Definitely agree. I think in general it's important to aboid the trap of only talking about now. One thing I've appreciated about BlueSky is people's willingness about the past. Whether that's old players or old takes, I think that's healthy. And predicting things correctly is cool!
Following this account because it's a fantastic concept.

The problem with Old Takes Exposed is that the obvious incentive becomes to only say milquetoast things, otherwise it's not worth the risk.

We need better (online) incentives to get people to say fun, bold things!
In a 2007 Mock Draft, Bill Simmons picked Kevin Durant over Greg Oden. Durant became a legend. Oden, due to injuries, was a bust

"I'm taking the guy with a legitimate chance to go down with every other great non-center who ever played in the NBA."

(Kudos to Chad Ford for agreeing as well)
