Probably a bunch of other stuff I can't think of right now.
Sad to see Tari go down with an injury. Hopefully he takes his time to recover fully before coming back - I'd hate to see yet another injury-plagued year for him if he doesn't let it heal. Fortunately the team should be able to fill in his minutes OK (although they'll miss his turnover generation!)

Another great game for Reed Sheppard. Active hands, bombing threes, doing funky celebration dances...he had it all! It's awesome to see his growth and I'm very glad to be proven wrong (I thought he was going to struggle). Long may it continue!

So yeah, overall this was a game where the #Blazers were able to take the #Rockets out of their usual game plan (first time the #Rockets have taken more threes than their opponent all year!), but it turns out that's not enough to stop them!

Maybe the intention was to keep the #Rockets off the line and play solid to make sure the protected the glass? Second lowest number of FT attempts for Houston all season, and they came close to matching them on the glass. But I think if you let this team run their sets you're going to be in trouble.

I was surprised how little ball pressure the #Blazers put out. Given their rep as turnover merchants I was expecting to see much more aggressive trapping and some full court pickups. But they only tried it a couple of times and that absence made the #Rockets' lives a lot easier.

Thompson vs Sharpe was a joy to watch all night. They were going at each other a lot, and both had spectacular plays! Their athleticism really jumps off the page. I thought Shaedon looked good offensively but struggled to hold up on the defensive end of the floor - Amen dusted him several times.

Helped that they started to space Clingan out to the three point line (where he's much less effective) and also that the threes started to fall! But I think that keeping the offense a little less predictable was what helped them get out of their second quarter funk.
November 16, 2025 at 10:43 AM
I thought Ime made a good adjustment in the second half - KD was on the floor whenever Clingan was. Durant's game is basically immune to intimidation at the rim because of those midrangers, so the #Rockets couldn't be limited to just the threes anymore.
November 16, 2025 at 10:41 AM
Part of the problem was that Clingan is really hard to score on inside (Alpy tried it a few times early with no joy). So that led the team to choose outside shots over attacking the rim. But I think they still need to go in there sometimes and vary the shot diet a bit!

Personally I think this showed a lack of game awareness from the team. If you're repeatedly doing the same thing and it's not working, you should change it! Even if it's just for a possession or two. Break the rhythm and be willing to do something different to get points on the board.

If you look at the box score you'll see that the #Rockets ended up taking 45 threes in this game. Normally they're around 30. This period of the game was a big reason why. The #Blazers were playing a defense that dared them to fire away from beyond the arc, and Houston obliged.
November 16, 2025 at 10:18 AM
There was only one portion of this game where the #Rockets stumbled and that was in the first half of the second quarter. #Blazers went zone with Clingan in the middle and for what felt like 10 straight possessions Houston took a three (most of which missed).
November 16, 2025 at 10:11 AM
Seems like the #Rockets' offense is going from strength to strength. They're reeling off these 40 point quarters and just overwhelming teams. Finding open shooters, kicking ahead on the break for run outs, letting KD do his thing from the midrange - it's all working very well!

I just moved a bit outside of London so I know what you mean. The extra space and car ownership are definitely perks! But walkability is still possible (here at least!). I'd find that tough to give up these days.

Yeah, that's my memory of the place. I'm a #Rockets fan because I lived in Houston as a kid for a year. But my memory of the city is that you had to drive for half an hour to get anywhere!

...ooof!

Over here you'd probably take a (very) crowded train home. But it does mean that the area round the stadium can be used for other stuff! This is what the nearest big stadium to me looks like from overhead.

That specific class of image (aerial shots of stadiums surrounded by desolate expanses of concrete) is what I think of as the purest distillation of American car-centric culture. You have built a place that everyone wants to get to! But then not found an easy way to get people there en masse.

Thanks for sharing! He makes some good points. I've never understood why anyone used Twitter's "For You" feed - before I left there I would only use it in the Chronological mode he describes (it was actually still possible to do this!) You still get exposed to lots of stuff you don't want though.

Interesting - I think I disagree. To me Okogie differentiates himself from DFS by providing a ball handling option. My understanding of DFS is that's he's D + 3s and not much else. The #Rockets need that extra player who can bring the ball over half court. And Okogie is no slouch defensively!
November 14, 2025 at 9:17 AM
And more to the point - should he be? Eason and Smith are the future and still benefit from having a chance to show us what they can do in consistent roles. If the team is winning plenty of games as is, I just don't see where the spot is for DFS in the rotation.
November 14, 2025 at 12:32 AM
I have quite low expectations for DFS. Maybe he'll come in and be awesome, but he's working his way back from injury on a new team where he's missed all of training camp and has had literally zero reps. The #Rockets aren't short of wings...is he really going to be ahead of Eason in the rotation?

Shame that they still employ Bridges, but apart from that it's all positives. Despite starting three rookies I think they're actually sneakily competent. Will be interesting to see if they can make some noise if they ever manage to get Ball and Miller healthy for any length of time.
