That the water-hen and snipe must have forsaken?
A poet? Then by heavens he must be poor."
I hear and is my heart not badly shaken?”

In an attempt to feel more Christmassy I’ve picked up Snow by John Banville. Nothing says festive cheer quite like a murder mystery.

Although there is much I could say about the leniency of some sentencing terms, I think Gisele Pelicot's bravery is worth praising right now. I wish her nothing but the peace and happiness she so richly deserves.

It still happens in my house if somebody gets an earache
"I was telling them in Spain last month that when I was a little boy, every house in Ireland had a small bottle of olive oil, but it was never in the kitchen. You would heat a teaspoon of it soaked in cotton wool and stick it in your ears.”

This is an interesting panel. Doyle wrote one of my all-time favourite books, The Woman Who Walked into Doors, so I'm curious to see what kind of writing this panel gravitate towards.
We’re thrilled to reveal the #BookerPrize2025 judging panel.✨

Roddy Doyle will act as chair of judges, and will be joined by Ayọ̀bámi Adébáyọ̀, Sarah Jessica Parker, @chrispower.bsky.social and Kiley Reid.
