Thanks for the summary. What a ride we Albertans are about to take. Russian funded friends and appearances with those (and MAGA) folk certainly seem intentionally cultivated, but from which direction... Chicken and egg question and / or a long subversive plot.
Watched Premier Smith's address. Most of it was the familiar (and for many legitimate) grievances that Alberta has with the federal government. Things that Smith has said for years and amplified during the federal election. But there were two newish items. A 🧵

With Election Day tomorrow, it's worth remembering:

"Accepting defeat is never easy. It demands... faith in our fellow citizens, faith in our institutions, faith that losing today does not mean losing forever.

It also demands work from the winners."

Everyone wants there to be a grand scheme behind all of this but the terrible truth is that extremely stupid people are in charge and they have a fanatical devotion to wrong, childlike concepts of society and economics cooked up by right wing radio hosts in order to sell tainted dietary supplements

Trump announces his tariffs, which are (somehow?) related to the trade barriers other countries are imposing on the U.S.

But...
THE NUMBERS HE'S PRESENTING BEAR NO RELATION TO REALITY.

It would be absurd to call these reciprocal tariffs. They're grievances.

Bad take. Albertans are not so brittle, our opinions are not so homogenous, and we are much more committed to democracy than Preston seems to believe.

Picking up your ball and leaving because you "lose"? That's loser talk.

But we're not losers. Albertans will continue to support a strong Canada.
Opinion: Mark Carney poses a threat to national unity
If he remains prime minister after this election, there is a very real possibility that Western Canada will move to secede

This is really bad. Liberals need to disqualify him. And do it ASAP. Even if you accept "just a joke" excuse, in this environment around foreign election interference, some things you don't joke about.

If you can only share one of my posts, I hope you share the one below. It may seem flippant in how I wrote it, but given what might be about to happen next week, and the huge consequences for the people in at least two nations, it’s actually incredibly important.
I realize now that I have a “trade deficit” with the store across the street. I walked over and bought a jug of milk. The store is abusing me and I’m tired of subsidizing it by buying something at a fair price that I want. I’m going to apply a tariff that will raise the future price of milk for me.
