Watching sunset hit the clouds at Mni Owe Sni (Coldwater spring) was also amazing - the native oak savanah and prairie grasses are so peaceful in autumn as twilight begins.

Fall colors - maple tree in wirth park with red, orange to yellow gradient from top to bottom and colorful leaves carpeting the grass below the tree. Most of the leaves are still on the tree. Overcast fall sky makes the colors pop.

Not sure how this was possible. (And sincerely hope no one was seriously injured.)
Power pole has been snapped off cleanly and is resting about 10 feet from where should be planted in the ground. A smashed white city of Minneapolis Traffic Control vehicle is pinned between the power pole and a brick building obstructing the sidewalk. The small SUV is about 30 feet from the nearest intersection and likely skidded into place.

Here's what the Mpls. Fire Dept. sent out about the big fire in NE this morning. This was as of about 9am.
September 7, 2025 At approximate 4:13 a.m. fire crews were dispatched to a report of a fire in abandoned 3-story commercial building located at 1503 - 1505 Central Ave NE. Upon arrival fire crews found a 3- story commercial building fully engulfed with fire. The fire was impinging on the adjacent commercial buildings to the east and west. Fire crews had a challenge gaining access to area of the commercial structure due to a large pile of discarded vehicle tires and debris blocking the access road, several locked gated parking lot areas, trees and brush, and BNSF railway bridge. Fire quickly spread to 2 other commercial building that were butted up against each other. A 2 nd and 3rd alarm were immediately called for extra personnel and equipment. Fire crews were able to gain access to nearby surrounding area parking lots spanning from Filmore Ave NE, 18th Street NE, NE Broadway and Central Avenue. Several fire engines had long hose lays to fire hydrants in the surrounding area to gain enough water to supply, 4 aerial ladder water towers and several large volume ground nozzles handlines to put large amounts of water on the fire building from the exterior and above. Fire crews were able to pull off boards and search some of the surrounding vacant commercial buildings that were safe to enter for possible people and they were all clear. Some of the buildings were not fully secured. Not every building was able to be searched due to fire and collapse danger. BNSF Railroad Company were contacted due to several railcars occupying the nearby rail tracks that the fire was impending upon. BNSF representative confirmed that the railcars were empty. BNSF were able to move the train cars away from the fire area. Excel Energy and CenterPoint were called to the scene to secure power to electrical lines and gas in the area. Several of the buildings have collapsed. Fire crews are still on scene working to extinguish the fire. Fire is contained to the area currently. Fire crews will be…
