Having a very young kid in New York City completely soured my experience. I ended up coming to the belief that to raise a kid in NYC you’d need either unlimited money or unlimited time. The city is a wonderful place to grow up, lots of culture and opportunity, but it’s also incredibly taxing.

One thing that was overlooked in the Zohran rent-stabilized apartment discourse was that if he and his wife wanted to have a kid, they’d probably have to leave their 1-bedroom apt. Even if you think that he somehow has it made (bogus), he’s basically trapped in one place even if his life changes.
We aren't planning on having kids because we don't want to, but that decision is made significantly easier by the cost of childcare being more than my wife makes in a year and a two bedroom apartment costing another $1-1.5k a month. There's a reason why friends have kids and then leave the city.
