What happened yesterday was simple…
The donors were tired of seeing their portfolios dropping, and were getting annoyed with the simple inconveniences that the shutdown was causing in their lives.
Our healthcare wasn’t really a concern for them.
Our lives aren’t really a concern for them.

DHS confirmed it has stopped automatically storing officials' text messages.
Instead, officials are supposed to take a screenshot, send that to their work email, download it onto their work computer and run a text-recognition program on it. Every time.

Traditional American politics is premised on the notion that sometimes you lose and sometimes you win and you have to deal with that.
But Trumpism is premised on the notion that any result where you don’t win is illegitimate, unlawful, fraud, criminal.
You can’t negotiate with people like that.

"Speaker, on 5 occasions last week you said 'I haven't seen it' when asked about news events w/big implications for public policy. Do you ever read the news, and do you agree it's problematic for the Speaker to be so woefully uninformed?"

Timely question asked (again) by @timothysnyder.bsky.social: If America did suffer a major terrorist attack, how would Trump & his team react?
They have already crippled government agencies responsible for preventing terrorism, empowering officials with (as he says) “entertainment skills.”

Six months ago I wrote this post about “the next terrorist attack.” I republish it now (lightly updated) because my fear of this scenario has recently grown much greater.

THIS is the reason why I have consistently tried to emphasize that Border Patrol and ICE are different agencies with different duties and different leadership and different styles.
Border Patrol are the aggro cowboys compared to ICE. Now they're going to be the ones running the show.

Trump notes the sound of construction of his new ballroom at the White House and says, "that's music to my ears. When I hear that sound, it reminds me of money. In this case it reminds me of lack of money because I'm paying for it."

If it's bad policy, a future Congress could repeal the law.
What you can't do is imagine away the text and original meaning of the 15th Amendment. You can't make Constitutional words mean whatever you want them to mean in the moment. That's not constitutional government. It's rule by judiciary.
