This moment says everything about why Zohran Mamdani won.

A journalist in a wheelchair asked about accessibility and Mamdani didn’t talk down to him, didn’t deflect, didn’t politicize it. He listened.

He’s the kind of leader who respects everyone, every faith, every class, every flag.

Something I always end up saying when I listen to #NPR every Sunday: "I didn't know that!"

Like the fool he is, Trump cut funding for public radio. Please donate to your local public radio stations. It's super important.

Bluesky has a setting that will remind you to add alt text before posting any images.

Go to "Settings," then "Accessibility." Select the checkbox for "Require alt text before posting."

Strangely, this is the product of eight months of rooting around and only really half the story of what's going on. But for @theverge.com, I dug into the current accessibility slowdown, specifically how industry collapse is impacting progress. Big thanks to @andrewrweb.bsky.social for taking it in.

This is a badass bathroom.
Accessible bathrooms should be more common.

In my #braille and #blind journey, I'm struggling with the mnemonic of what each letter looks like. My Braille lesson says the letter 'd' in Braille resembles a written uppercase 'D'. WTF! Personally? I think it's a backwards d*ck. Sad, that's easier for me to remember. #disability

Working on accessibility is even more important now than ever. Keep pushing accessibility forward, no matter the barriers. Every effort matters, no matter how small.

Have been lying low, recent checkup at my retinal specialist involved a modest increase in vision. This has been challenging some of my assumptions of vision loss and myopic retinopathy. Still need to continue my Braille studies, still blind in one eye, still less than 50 degree FOV in my good eye.

Many non-disabled individuals do not realize just how much they would also benefit from better accessibility.

Living with #disability and vision loss, I distance myself from certain sighted activities. I hate being challenged by what I once did so easily or investing time in a hobby that will be a non-starter someday. Even still I have to cherish what I can do today and not let the future weigh me down.

The original title was "The Psychology of Everyday Things." But bookstores often shelved it in the wrong section, sometimes under self-help, so it was renamed.

Even a book on design may miss considering and testing placement, context, and interpretation.

And be careful pouring 🫖

"This is a self-induced problem for colleges. It’s widespread throughout the entire academic system.

We can see it with physical accessibility at colleges too. Accessibility has been treated as a burden far more than it’s been treated as a priority."

Really excellent analysis:

As promised: My thoughts on a recent article on The Chronicle of Higher Education.

It's about damn time for colleges to prioritize content accessibility. 🔥

And I resent those wanting to wait for Trump to deregulate. Choosing to wait is choosing to discriminate.

Received my first Braille workbook from Hadley yesterday. The lessons are simple, but I understand the need to work up slowly to more advanced lessons. Highly recommended at hadleyhelps.org and hope they appear on Blue Sky soon. #braille #disability #blind #visuallyimpaired
