I should take down my halloween decorations but tbh the scariest one of all is this spider plant who probably owns my office now
A spider plant on a windowsill that has a shocking amount of baby plants. The stems are reaching across the wall towards a shelf, they’re colonizing the rest of the available space on the windowsill, and they’re falling down towards the floor.

Today’s fun fact about Wizard King! Have you all ever seen a leather needle? I had never seen one before inheriting my grandma’s sewing kit. I was used to regular sewing needles, so imagine my surprise when I pulled out this beast from the box!

And then I worked it in my book as a hero prop 🤭

So I read @keezyyoung.bsky.social ‘s Hello Sunshine yesterday. It turned out to be a real «read cover to cover in 1 day» book. A really special and honest experience.

Was crying by the end tho. Good tears! It was just really emotional for me idk it was like midnight ahah

The funniest part of Wizard King is that book 1 you are in Autumn’s POV and she thinks she’s in a version of « the beauty and the beast » that could turn into « bluebeard » at any moment so she needs to be sharp and not give this wizard an INCH.

Meanwhile, the story from Eltanin’s POV:
Meme of that scene from Lilo and Stitch where she prays for a friend, but Lilo is labelled « Eltanin » and the text says: I need a wife… I am asking the neighbouring kingdom to send me a princess. The most agreeable and gentle one they have. Then, the frame where Stitch is laughing like a maniac, but he is labelled « Autumn »

There is a reason why the FMC in my fantasy book loves fiber craft, is skilled at mathematics, and eventually surpasses her wizard husband in skills *specifically* because magic is based on math in a way that is intuitive to her...

Its cuz textile arts are great!
Yet he still had been taken aback by how quickly she understood even the most complex of magical equations, and how delighted she had been when she'd realized how much of magic rested on a foundation of maths. Once, he made the mistake of commenting on this, and was subjected to an impassioned treatise on how fibre arts were the purest expression of mathematics, including but not limited to geometry, algebra, topology, trigonometry, and whatnot. A large swoosh of magic surged in the room, far more of it than should have been required for her to be simply overruling his spells again. Eltanin jumped to his feet, alarmed. What he saw should not have been possible; his queen was awash in a sea of colours, light pouring out from her fingers as she traced her hands along the surface of the piece of cloth, following complicated paths that he could only guess at without days taken studying her work. Mathematics, he thought with awe. Fibre arts.

I did it again… I added another gratuitous fiber craft scene to this book… 😌
It was long passed sundown. Autumn was pacing in her rooms, muttering to herself. Around her left wrist was her travelling distaff, a thick braided cord with dozens of trailing tails, weighted down with colourful beads. Around these tails she had wrapped a rope of combed wool. With her other hand, she was feeding the fibers to her drop spindle. It was her favourite way to spin; the work was mindless enough to allow her to think through her problems, and the beads made a pleasing sound as they clicked against each other as she walked. It had perhaps been an indulgence to use up space in her luggage to bring along this wool, but it has been dyed with such a pleasing shade of green - first with safflower and then with woad - that it would have been a shame to never have the chance to spin it.

Most of Wizard King takes place in the summer :)
A bright light surged around Autumn. Her chair vanished underneath her and she fell with a cry of alarm, landing not on the dining room floor, but on the soft and spongy ground of the forest. She scrambled to her feet, heart hammering. The failing rays of dusk were doing nothing to illuminate her surroundings, and worse - the woods were quiet. Autumn cursed softly. She had no idea what to do. The trees appeared much the same in every direction. She couldn't see any trace of the road on which she and the knight had travelled, nor could she tell in which direction the castle was. From behind her came a soft murmur of noise. She whirled around to see a thick cloud of fog roll out from between the trees. She took a step back, watching warily as the billows unfurled, trying to gauge whether the mist was a natural occurrence or something else. Then long talons emerged from the wisps, followed by a curved beak ringed by six glowing eyes. Autumn screamed. Her first reaction was to flee, but on the uneven forest ground, there was no hope that she might go far. Branches slapped at her skin and thorns caught on the edge of her skirts. A root that she couldn't see in the darkness put a quick stop to her escape. She tumbled down then just as swiftly rolled back to her feet, her ankle screaming in pain.

My book Skin Deep has already been bought by a few people as part of this sale, and I really hope they like it! Writing this book didn’t just change how I approach writing, but how I approach the world too. It was my first time writing romance and I found it to be so *joyful*.

SKIN DEEP The river was never as beautiful as when it was silent, all of its sounds dampened by fog and all of its possibilities within reach. The luminous grey of the sky melded seamlessly into the rippling grey of the water, making it seemed as if they were one and the same. For some, that bleak cloudiness might have felt dreadful, but for Louison the sight was one of welcomed and comforting familiarity. SKIN DEEP Like an otter that had gotten a taste of the foodstuff that humans put in their traps and had taken a liking to it, Louison wanted to be caught. She yearned for it. Sometimes the trap had been placed there by scientists that just wanted to tag you and then let you go, and sometimes it was poachers. How was an otter supposed to know? She didn't know who Gabrielle and Adrien really were. But she wanted to find out.
