In the far extended next week, most of the available guidance pushes our temperatures even colder with highs in the low-mid teens possible.

Highs on Wednesday will be in the mid 20s and then slowly slide down to near 20 by the weekend. There is a chance of more snow on Friday night but details at the time are quite muddled.

The other factor is the wind. Winds will pick up Tuesday and Tuesday night out of the North to Northwest at 20-30 mph with gusts as high as 40 mph for travel hazardous in heavier snow with some blowing snow as well.

Once we get through Tuesday, the one certainty is a much colder pattern.

Along a Morris-St. Cloud-Cambridge and then Balsam Lake WI line could see a very wet and slushy 4-6" of snow that would prove very difficult to shovel/snow blow.

In the Twin Cities, I expect flurries in the far south up to 3-4" from Monticello to Forest Lake.

However, ground temperatures are still somewhat warm, so this initial snow may not stick around more than a few days.

With the incoming snow and much colder temperatures, this maybe the the initial snow pack of the 25-26 winter season. The same snow pack will make it easier for Arctic air to reach the region and produce colder temperatures than if we had no snow cover.

Wednesday is windy and colder with highs on the mid 20s and that's the warmth for the rest of the week! Skies clear out then another storm affects he region centered on Saturday. However, the computer models aren't in tight agreement so the exact timing and amounts are not able to be forecast.

If the system comes in a bit stronger than expected or temperatures drop quicker, it could bring snow totals up to 6-8". Winds will be picking up on Tuesday as well with NW winds at 20-30 causing areas of blowing snow.

Rain begins Tuesday morning and turns into a steady rain, then changes over to snow in the afternoon. As it stands at this moment, areas from St. Cloud towards Taylors Falls could see 3-5" of slushy snow accumulate overnight.
