Re-reposting 9 days later because Black History Month. Black history is not some special-interest side room to American history. It is central—to every aspect of our past. Black people changed things profoundly for you, whoever you are, in aspects of your life you may take for granted.
As one of many who has written about the 14th Amendment, I offer this free link to an explainer I wrote a few years ago. Long story short: Without the self-assertion of Black Americans, you would likely not enjoy basic liberties you take for granted. If we keep them.
