This is a legacy all modern game designers should be aware of, and push against.
The far right is obsessed with Lord of the Rings and Musk keeps posting about "hobbits" because modern scientific racism owes more to fantasy worlds and gaming systems than genetic science, and they see both as effective mediums for right-wing propaganda www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2025/1...

If you backed that Avatar game a while back, you need to back this. Possibly at the pay-it-back level.

still thinking about this article today. so many societal ills are caused by people white-washing what actually happens. it's awful to see games do it too.

can't wait for cozy domestic violence simulator or cozy kkk simulator

As hard copies of Draw Steel are being delivered, we entered the Jam of the Timescape to design leveled treasure sets for the game!

Here's our thoughts on how we designed two different sets: Anathema and the Apparel of the Brawler!

God, like so many things Vincent says, this is super smart and super true and also makes me want to absolutely start layering onto it because there is so much “yes, and” and “yes, but” here because this is SUCH a huge thing he has laid bare.

To top it off, it reminds me of business.
We weren't disempowering GMs, we were shifting part of the burden of GMing onto the players, because "the person upon whom a majority of the responsibility for the game's enjoyment rests" is not who we wanted to be.

As someone who loves to run D&D with the complete "Mt Dew and Cheetos in mom's basement" vibe, this music hits the perfect tone.
Owlbear hit a quarter million total streams, and it's been an incredible journey the last few years. It's been so nice to give a shit about music again and not just be completely burnt out on it. Also I love my bandmates, (not equal amounts but like I'm sure they get it. Also not like LOVE but like,

Mouth feel is exactly the correct term.
As I'm designing my next game I'm have this scrawled on my big notepad to make sure it is front and center in the design process.

100% agree! Being afraid to make big swings is why we end up making the same formulaic art again and again.
I love it when a piece of art makes big swings, even if it misses. An ambitious film with too much to say, a book that overreaches with its tone, a poem that’s a little too self-indulgent. Even if it’s not personally my thing, it means the artist took a risk and cared, and that’s worth celebrating.
