I'm a bioinformatics and genomics scientist in the North East UK. I spend most of my spare time designing in Fusion, 3D printing, coding, playing videogames, airsoft, and walking my dog. I appreciate humour and positive energy online.

Indeed. When they rounded up the Japanese Americans, myself and my family included, for internment during WWII out of fear over Japanese spies and saboteurs, two thirds of us were U.S. citizens.

Don’t think it won’t happen again when they come for the “undocumented.”

Word of the Day is a true favourite, as some of you will know.

Apricity (17th century) is the warmth of the sun on a winter’s day.

It’s Airsoft time on Sunday yet again, but my 3D printer has nothing to do between now and then. Do any Airsofters here have suggestions of a useful airsoft-related 3D print?

just turn over the water companies to the beavers
Since their return to the UK, beavers have created more reservoirs than the privatised UK water companies have managed to build since 1969 🌹

A week ago Blender terrified me. Today I finished my first render from scratch! BlenderGuru's guide on Youtube is excellent, so well paced and clear.

I can't wait to design more things in Blender, and hopefully print them out!

Well Threads deleted my account with no explanation so I guess BlueSky wins!

Incredible images here! Welcome
Hi! I’m Darren, I am very much into #Astrophotography and #Astronomy. I love McLaren #F1 and have been a fan for 30 years. I would love to get started over here, so here’s some of my images

Holy smokes. The highlighted part is an actual phrase that appears in the new book written by Heritage President that JD Vance blurbed. Just dripping with "Christian patriot" hatred for his fellow Americans.

My A-level result day (2010!) is one of the worst memories of my life. I’d struggled all of year 13 to balance my studies, sport and work responsibilities because I believed that all 3 were 100% required to get into a good uni and do well in life. My mum ran out crying when she saw my results.

Thank you so much everyone for the warm welcome to @bsky.app! I’ve barely been here 12 hours and have had some great conversations with lovely people about tech, maker projects and genomics. What a community!

X friends: Let’s connect on here too. Just getting set up but will get round to following back! Keen to replicate the community from there on here: we all know it may become a need not an optional extra. Pls repost so we can all find each other as it doesn’t seem as easy as on X.

This is my Lab Assistant, Ash. He's a Labrador-Border Collie mix and far too intelligent. He's almost always sat in the background while I work, and follows me just about everywhere...

This is one of my most recent projects: the pip deck 1000! A macro pad for my desktop PC inspired by the Pip-boy device from Fallout. I designed it from scratch in Autodesk Fusion and printed it out. Inside is a Pico running CircuitPython. It's on my Printables page if you're interested!

Hello! I've moved here from Twitter!

I'm a scientist in the UK working in genomics, but my real passion is using the newest and most exciting technology for good.

My 3D printers are almost always running, I have a drawer full of Raspberry Pi boards and usually have Fusion open on my PC.
