I've got some opinions about Arsenal. And oh boy, are they average.
There aren't that many directly equivalent fixtures both us and City have played, but I think this is reassuring.

Arsenal
Spurs (H) - W
Villa (A) - L
Newcastle (A) - W
Leeds (H) - W
Fulham (A) - W
Points: 12

City
Spurs (H) - L
Villa (A) - L
Newcastle (A) - L
Leeds (H) - W
Fulham (A) - W
Points: 6

The sky isn’t falling in, Arsenal are just tired. The last five games weighed heavily on a trip to Aston Villa that probably became harder due to Mikel Arteta’s first half setup.

Some tactical things I think we're learning.
- Odegaard 10 and Gyokores 9 works as a pair, so does Eze 10, Merino 9
- Even an out of form Martinelli might still be the big away game pick - we go in 0-0 at HT if he starts.
- Eze + Noni can't be trusted for every game state

City go to the Bernabeu Wednesday and then away to Palace on Sunday.

Whereas we go to Brugge for a game we don't really have to win and then home to Wolves on Saturday.

There'll be quite a few more swings this season...

Arteta mentioning a couple of times in his post-match interview that we were 18 games unbeaten before this.

The insinuation I think is that a result like this was always going to happen - and it's all about how we react.

As is so often the case with Mikel, his messaging to the players is on point.

Arsenal now six points better off than last season. Man City 10 points better off before they play Sunderland. If both teams match last season's results, City will get 81 points and Arsenal 80.
Thinking about @orbinho.bsky.social posting the points difference on equivalent fixtures last year 😭😭😭

There’s fit enough to make a bench, fit enough to meaningfully sub, fit enough to play multiple 90s in short succession, and fit enough to be at your best while doing so. Just because it’s explainable, doesn’t mean it isn’t brutal. They hit a wall.

Aston Villa 2 (2.2)-(1.5) 1 Arsenal Attacking Pressure

This was one of the most back-and-forth, basketball-type match I have seen from Arsenal this season. Just so different than what is normal and it was not fun that is for sure.

Villa, man...

You have to say Emery just knows how to play Arteta (and worth noting he also knows how to play Pep - City have already lost there this season).

We don't lose that with our two top CBs on the pitch...

When you go to these places and the opposition are treating it like a cup final, you need all your best players in tip top shape.

We need to take this one on the chin, do the job with some easier fixtures and:

GET. PEOPLE. FIT.

We keep walking into stadiums at exactly the wrong time - and when the opposition are so up for it, you can't carry passengers.

Eze has been a passenger. He was at Chelsea too.

He's a useful player who can give you massive moments, but I'm starting to think he's not a 'game for your life' guy...

Honestly, at risk of abuse, I think we played pretty well that half, but had some bad individual moments of sloppiness. Some attacks that should've produced better chances with sharper play & defensive moments where individuals made errors including, obviously, on their goal.
December 6, 2025 at 1:24 PM
Obvious concern with that line-up (aside from the defence) is that Villa could really squeeze up if all our attackers are coming towards the ball.

Saka, Merino and Eze all have to make little adjustments to make sure one of them is stretching if the others drop.
December 6, 2025 at 11:52 AM
The individuals in that back line are incredibly talented, but don't let that fool you - it's a highly makeshift defence we're taking to Villa park today.

I highly doubt Ben White can play another 90 minutes, but i also have no idea who we'd bring on for him...

Arsenal fear they could be without Cristhian Mosquera for around six weeks.

Assessments ongoing and 21-year-old CB still hoping to be back sooner.

What an obsequious, toadying, servile, brown-nosing, corrupt little cunt Gianni Infantino is.

The FIFA 'peace prize' is the most cringe-worthy, pathetic thing I've ever seen in my life.

Football deserves better than this travesty of a ceremony and ruling body.

Think Chelsea probably gave the best performance they'll give all season against us.

They're not in this title race for the long haul. Too much emotion, too many errors, not enough leaders.

Villa are flying right now. Could be quite the game on Saturday.

I just wish we had more of a settled 11 right now when it comes to the big away games.

We need Saliba and Rice... 🤞

Real shame that Havertz is still 'a matter of weeks' away from a return, according to Mikel in the presser today.

Think most would agree he's still the best CF at the club and we'll have missed him for half the season...
