Crucial to the US's self-described notion of power is that we don't have titles that are held in perpetuity. You don't have to call Hillary Clinton "Madame Secretary" and you shouldn't! Stop this nonsense! The office is not the person!

To David's point this is only a problem because Luke Wilson is famous enough that the viewer can know things about him. I don't look at the tv and say "that's a commercial guy" in a crappy commercial. I look at the tv and say "That's Luke Wilson. What is he on about?"

The Luke Wilson one drives me insane. Who is he portraying? "When you grow up out here you learn to tell fact from fertilizer"[tumbleweed blows through]. You went to a prep school in Dallas! Kurt Eichenwald and Ross Perot's kid are alums! You went to college in LA! What are you talking about!?

Actually the "God made humanity in his image which is why men are strong and women have big naturals" is not from the Bible. It's some contemporary fundie couple.

When I first read this article I (as a highly literate native English speaker) was trying to reverse engineer how this could possibly work because it sounded insane. Turns out it doesn't work and the final revelation that the inventor of the method is an anti-science crank was clarifying.

There's quite a lot I found dumbfounding about this. I had foolishly assumed that people who set materials and curriculum at the state or higher level would be familiar with the current science on early childhood education but apparently not! A lot of teachers assume the same and teach accordingly.

Now "browsing" means Netflix compiles your recent watch history and feeds you more of the exact same thing. Or Amazon analyzes your buy history and gives you a list of 15 books with basically the same title. You rarely stumble upon something new or different by chance. It's eroding our curiosity.

Although what they did is different it's similar to R. Kelly: Not merely *being* a sex predator but the whole artistic persona relies on an audience not thinking they are a sex predator. You can't separate the art from the artist because there is no separation.

Countries don't like writing about how the nice foreigners "liberated" them, even if they absolutely fucking hated the regime overthrown. They want to write about how they liberated themselves or overcame the horrors of the past, however forced and contrived a narrative that has to be.
