London buzzing today. Streets, bars, shops & restaurants packed. Soho full of London locals and tourists spending £. Latin DJ and dancing on South Bank. And we have a new fish & chip shop made of felt. Massive chasm between narrative about UK life and reality

So many questions. Does anyone 'miss out' on a heatwave? Is Met Office in control of heatwaves or upset on someone's behalf?

Hunch that Kipyegon will get closer to #breaking4 without the skin suit & Nike show but at a Diamond League (London please 🙏) with a roaring stadium and paving from the best women 800m runners. Crowd probably has more effect than all the other stuff combined

Don't mind these Nike-sponsored spectacles that bring an extra bit of focus on our sport, but don't like how they wrongly compare them to real races. Already they've called it a race and compared it to Roger Bannister's legitimate mile record.

This has been niggling me. It's because it's the politics of the stereotypical pub bore I met recently, who told racist Benny Hill jokes in between slagging off cyclists, 20mph limits and women drivers. So the Party I support and help fund is more interested in pub bores than me and my family. Cool

Why are children not playing in the street? An FT piece analysing the - very concerning - decline in outdoor play manages to look at every possible cause: screens, spaces, school timetable changes. Apart from one.
Cars.
It is simply not safe for kids to play outside on streets.

Anybody complacent enough to think that the shitshow in the US could not happen here should take a glance at how quickly elements of the media have rushed to excuse proven lawbreaking by a far-right populist and undermine due process.

Gareth Southgate, "Maybe its the moment you didn't do as well as you hoped to in an exam.. Get rejected from a job.. When someone has let you down"
"In that moment you have a choice"
"Do you let disappointment define you?"
"Do you give up?"
"Or do you get back up, learn from it, and keep going?"

Thinking about why public services should
not be designed in the same way as private-sector ones. I've 5 points so far:
(1) CHOICE: with v few exceptions, we get to choose the private-sector digital services we use but most public services need to be universal at the point of access
