Really really thankful to Animus Magazine and Elena Lazic for this opportunity and for the many suggestions which have made the piece it is.
🏀 NEW LONG-FORM ESSAY 🏀
In his wide-ranging piece, returning Animus writer @bharathan.bsky.social looks at the ways sporting excellence is portrayed and/or analysed in different media, through the example of Michael Jordan. animus-magazine.ghost.io/the-invisibl...

Saw Highest 2 Lowest, and if I were to compare it with the original, it's nowhere close. Kurosawa's film is all about ethical dilemmas. Spoke Lee's version is about choices made for the social media audience. Even as a standalone film it doesn't work. A$AP Rocky's "Both Eyes Closed" is great though.

A film about CMS systems and online rage-baiting, a nerdy tech-bro troll of a film, a film for Elon-types who don’t have any sense for the inspiring grandeur or grace of Superman, of humanity, of John Williams’ theme, or—if I may—of cinema itself.

New SUPERMAN is garbage for babies. Squandering the rich Superman mythology to instead show fighting, large-scale destruction, and idiotic multiverse shit like your usual MARVEL crap.

helendecruz.substack.com/p/cant-take-... such a touching article by @helendecruz.net. Devastating news about her health and am so very thankful for her positivity and philosophy. And for her music among other things.

Another friend was falling under the spell of fascist YouTubers - the only thing that broke that spell was showing him how much his rants were hurting the people who he loved and trusted. He was lonely, isolated, hooked on YouTube. What brought him back wasn't clever debate, it was human company.
We lost one friend in Berlin to far-right radicalisation, despite great patience. Very, very smart guy in his chosen area, totally lacking in social or political curiosity outside it. His world-leading expertise in one narrow field made him discount anything we had to say about race or sexuality.
Part of this dynamic is the way algos make people feel like they’re thinking for themselves and being independent-minded, all while they are being played for fools, their minds hijacked by behaviour-altering parasites
