I've written a couple CDBG grant applications for projects that would make a huge difference in their local communities.

Today, over 20,000 bee species are buzzing for #WorldBeeDay 🐝

Bees & other pollinators keep 80% of crop and wild flowering plants alive.

Yet, 1 in 10 bee, hoverfly, and butterfly species are now at risk of extinction in the EU.

Well, this is not good.

Also, as I looked for more information on the sudden loss of millions of honey bees, I am SO annoyed that most articles are framing the story around how this is going to cause the price of honey to increase. Like, that's the least of our worries!! 😭
Millions of honeybees are dying — and no one is sure why

I've got my weather radio charged and my tornado space ready. Let's hope this storm isn't as bad as they think it will be. 😰
ALERT: Tomorrow's severe weather risk has been upgraded, with increased confidence in EF2 or stronger tornadoes, some of which could be long-tracked. Stay with The Weather Channel for timing and live coverage.

Just read my first banned book of the year - Looking for Alaska by John Green.

It's one of the top 25 most banned books in Alabama because the teenage characters drink alcohol and talk about sex. But, I don't think there's anything too inappropriate for a high school student to read. 🤷‍♀️

My favorite read of the week:

"If you cut a person off from reading, you’re a thief. You cut them off from the song that humanity has been singing for thousands of years. You cut them off from what we have laid out for the next generation, and the next."

NAR's 2024 Profile of Buyers and Sellers Report revealed more multi-generational homes were purchased in 2024 than ever before. I hope this trend continues.

Multi-gen living is the norm in so many other cultures and used to be here in the US as well. Going back would solve a lot of problems.

1000% this. Public libraries are actually pretty radical--free to all, and based on the idea that info should be available to all. Get a library card! Use your library! Those numbers often play into their funding.
I also keep thinking that we have to support our libraries.

Today marks two years of living in Alabama. It was a huge change, that's for sure, but there's a lot of beauty here - in both the scenery and the people.

That being said, there are a lot of things I don't understand. Obvious topics aside, I don't get the love of queso. Why is it on everything???

So, to start, I want to compliment my BlueSky community. You all are so welcoming and supportive. I appreciate you. 🥰

A reminder - don't use Amazon, but go to bookshops, which play a far more vital role in promoting literacy just by simply making books more visible, and allow you to find things by chance rather than by what the algorithm decides.
