Absolutely brilliant news
On this (Boxing) day of walks, some good walking/access news:
c. 40,000 miles of historic rights-of-way in England & Wales have been reprieved from deletion from the “definitive map” of such paths.
Great work @ramblers.org.uk & other campaigners on this.

Oh this is good.

And yes, hard is right. But also beautiful.

The ‘best’ essay I wrote in graduate school was where I applied (criminal psychologist) Lonnie Athens’ theory of ‘violentizarion’ to Macbeth. Fun times.

There is no better train line in the country than the Mildmay Overground line between Clapham/Richmond to Stratford. I’ve sworn that I’ll never live more than a ten min cycle ride from it.

I was in Cambridgeshire for a workshop on ways to improve rural roads for walking, wheeling, and cycling. Back at Finsbury Park we splintered to the four corners of London - travelling conveniently, safely, sustainably and efficiently via public transport and cycling. What a city. @london.gov.uk

I once had a hospital appointment at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital that I was nervous about, so I decided to walk there from my house following river paths. Chelsea Creek was my last river-side section. It’s what remains of the lost Counter's Creek. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Counter...

Had to go to Imperial Wharf for something. What an odd, soulless place. Although Chelsea Creek looked interesting. Anyone know anything about it?

There's been a 63% increase in cargo bike use in London - over 70% in some areas - helping cut pollution & congestion.

Great to see the Better Bankside BID's new Green Logistics Centre to consolidate deliveries and support local businesses.

We need to get suburban areas of large towns and cities adopting improved conditions for walking and cycling as a priority. This will require funding, political action, and vision. Let’s do it, it’ll be fun.

Morning spent helping to prune back trees on the river bank and clearing debris from the water. Pulled out one branch with a decomposing adult nappy insnared. Flushed? However it got there, let’s clean up the Thames and hold polluters accountable.

On the plus side, incredible light.

Our neighbourhood just got a new bike shop. Not one where you have to make an appointment to visit or where you need to take out a small mortgage. A standard, family owned bike shop. That sells bikes. And fixes bikes.

So much of my professional and unprofessional life is revolving around London’s rivers at the moment. Walking and cycling routes beside them, swimming in them, campaigning for them, writing about them and exploring along them. What a joy.
