My friend thought we saw an eagle at Walthamstow Wetlands yesterday… 🦅

I’d like to visit WWT in Barnes - especially as there’s glossy ibis there at the moment which I’d love to try and see. But I’m sad they do pinioning and also have captive animals. The entrance price is almost £20 which I’d be happy to pay, but I don’t want to support cruel practices. Any thoughts?

“Mass evacuations, with the military on standby, could be triggered in the event of a failure at the crumbling Coppermills works in north-east London.”
Pretty scary, as it’s just upstream from us on the River Lea 😱 on.ft.com/4r4elw8

Please help SAVE TAYLORS BUTTONS, Maureen Rose's legendary shop in Cleveland St. They will shut in November forever unless they can pay their rent arrears from the Covid lockdowns:

This photograph is absolutely brilliant! I think the photographer should enter it into next year’s Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition 🐀 ⚽️

I thought it'd be fun to document my thoughts on the London Loop as I'm walking it, something I wish I'd done when I walked the Capital Ring last year. It's been a while since I flexed my creative muscles, really enjoyed writing this. nikmortimer.substack.com/p/london-loo...

Finally kicked off the @ldnloop-capring.bsky.social this morning, a very windy 9 mile walk from Erith to Bexley with @gojauntly.bsky.social as my trusty guide. Hard to believe some of this scenery is still technically in London, gorgeous stuff. Looking forward to getting stuck in now.

Where would you recommend for autumn and winter bird watching in Scotland? 🦅

Saw a seal swimming in the Thames on the way to @rspb.bsky.social Rainham Marshes 🦭

They have a scope set up in the visitor centre and you can see seals basking on the opposite shore. There was a pup splashing about at the water’s edge 🌊

A young kingfisher

When walking along the River Lea at Hackney Marshes, you can encounter these fledglings who are very confiding.

Hit me up with your favourite sea food places within day tripping reach of London on public transport! Not fancy ones - like shacks, or non fancy pubs/cafes/restaurants. 🦞 🦪🍤

Inspired by @thewateriswide.net recent sightings I went to #Hackney Marshes today & this female kingfisher was fishing at the relief channel on the Lea.

Two other kingfishers went past chasing each other on a few occasions.

I saw this beautiful and unusual brown and white female mallard. Do you think it’s a leucistic mallard? Or maybe a hybrid with a domestic duck such as a Pekin? #birds #ducks #birdID

I was standing on the bridge watching a heron fishing in the Lea, when it suddenly took off. I’m always awestruck by the size of their wingspan and unexpected grace in flight.
