something small c conservative about a company focused on low cost goods being call the “Cost Company”
that's in part because costco feels so old fashioned. the approach generally seems to be, "will this provide additional value to our customers?"

“What if Bill de Blasio’s popular policies and multi-racial political coalition had a charismatic, media-savvy leader?” is probably going to be a more accurate description of the Mamdani administration than what the DSA wants and the WSJ edit board feara
New: Zohran Mamdani's expected to later this morning announce he plans to appoint Dean Fuleihan as his first deputy mayor, per sources.
Fuleihan served in the same role under Bill de Blasio.

A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.
Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."
Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

The correct view of Paul Pelosi’s trading hobby is
1) it looked terrible
2) clearly didnt rely on inside info and he lost money doing it vs the market

I will -- somewhat! -- defend the trading because it's clearly just that Paul fuckin loves yolo-ing trending options
they should have put in place a rule for many reasons tregardless
but there was clearly no inside information going into his dumb trend-chasing trades

“I am! Are you!?”
The survey question should be "What do you do when the Lubavitchers come up to you on Sukkot and ask 'Are you Jewish?'"
- say no
- say no and later feel guilty
- say yes and shake the lulav
- say yes and keep walking briskly

running as “the Democrat” on the Democratic Party line in NYC is, it turns out, a pretty good tactic in 2025
Cuomo spent months obsessively courting conservative voters and he drove Sliwa's vote% down to 7% but he was bleeding moderate Dem base voters with every new right wing message and Trump endorsement
and Zohran took the opportunity and ran with it

to me this is the story of the election
there was never any way for Cuomo to win if he didn't win the Bronx, central Brooklyn and southern Queens
and he lost all three
Zohran convinced the crucial swing voters in this race that he was the Democrat and Cuomo was not, and that's why he won
