Capitalists as a class want reliable economic data. They want predictable and impartial courts. Landed gentry don’t want or care about those things.

Increasingly think neofeudalism vs capitalism is a better lens for understanding what’s going on in contemporary politics than capitalism vs socialism.

Unquestionably the most dangerous and corrupt attack on the independence of US economic data in American history. Trump is firing the head of the BLS, a longtime civil servant confirmed 86-8 by the Senate, simply because the job numbers came in below his expectations today

On Facebook they post endless warnings about Nigel Farage. Last week Starmer did a big giant speech about the dangers of Farage. All the while they're trying to be him. It would be like saying "I hate David Bowie, he's so shit" while sporting a red glitter lightning bolt over one eye.

The unbelievable condescension we’re already seeing today towards working class people- suggesting they don’t travel to Europe or their kids might not want to go to university and study in Europe- is quite something to behold.

Winter fuel came up with pretty much every former and current Labour voter we spoke to yesterday in Doncaster.
Said before but no doubt that the winter fuel allowance means testing has played a large part in where Labour find themselves and the rise of Reform and it reinforced the feeling Labour and the Tories were no different. I think they have to find a way out. bsky.app/profile/luke...
Been thinking a lot about the Winter Fuel Allowance. It comes up in almost every focus group on the Starmer govt; so much that I think you could call it this Government’s original sin. Why? I think four big reasons 1. Trust 2. Concern for vulnerable 3. Contribution 4. Encourages zero sum thinking

Putin says Trump must go further before he’ll even agree to meet.

Putin is entirely in the driving seat. The US has alienated its own allies, given Russia nearly all of what it wanted, bought Putin’s warped view of reality, and can’t even guarantee a meeting. The art of the deal, indeed.

Once again I am leaving the Munich Security Conference in a low mood. Amongst all the noise, the US signalled their plans for Europe, so things are becoming clearer. But things are clearly not good.
This is what we now know, and what we have to do about it:🧵1/17

People who say that Europe must be at the table should remember that to be invited, you have to matter. If Europe commits to money, troops and a European path for Ukraine, we will make our own table and Ukraine, Putin, and Trump can be invited. But time is running out.🧵9/17
