This is Carolyn Edwards. She was one of the first officers attacked and knocked out on January 6th. She bravely testified before the January 6th committee. She is one of the bravest people I know and she deserves better. (She posted this publicly on her FB page which is why I'm sharing publicly)

Strike day 4: A big day, in which a lot happened, but this was the absolute highlight. If there is a conscience of the Guardian, it may be Gary Younge. He made this speech, off the bat & nailed it. We are the true spirit of the Guardian & Obs. And we are here fighting to save our news org.

In case anybody is wondering why Guardian journalists are not replying to work emails or posting as usual.

We are striking for the first time in 50+years over the planned sale of our sister paper, the Observer.

More here from the NUJ.
Today Guardian and Observer journalists are on strike over plans to sell the Observer to a loss-making digital start up and put its journalism behind a paywall. 🧵

My favourite book this year was "Ghosts of a Family" by @edwardburke.bsky.social, which looks at the McMahon murders of 1922. Jason Burke discusses the book with Edward in his latest podcast - well worth a listen and I thoroughly recommend the book too! 🎧👇

You can go to many countries in Europe and see how, even after war, they have retained or reconstructed many beautiful buildings such as Belfast once had. Here we just knock them down or don't rebuild them. It kills the character of the city. It's extremely short-sighted.
