Highly recommend signing up for the @indivisible.org weekly newsletter for easy-to-understand updates about what's happening in Washington and (most importantly!) actionable to-dos for that week—example in the screenshot. You can also find your local Indivisible group here: indivisible.org/groups

the idea that these tech guys are opposed to "government waste" is so completely fucking ridiculous. they feast on government waste. DOD budgets are a bloated mess. the pentagon has failed 7 straight audits. the big beneficiaries are tech companies providing defense services.

What is with these ads where the premise is a fake podcast conversation or fake man-on-the-street style interaction? I've seen them CONSTANTLY lately. This one I got on IG is so obviously fake it hurts to watch. Rocket Money TV ads come to mind too.

Even if he does it is worth resisting! I find all the talk of whether Trump’s power is legitimate baffling, honestly. He’s a straightforward authoritarian! The main reason to push back is all of the stuff he is going to do, not how his vote total stacks up to previous presidents.
Trump does not have a mandate.
History has consistently demonstrated that direct support for authoritarianism is relatively narrow. It thrives through surrender and acquiescence by elite institutions.

I recently got tricked into watching (okay, skipping through) a 73-minute-long freelance writing "masterclass" which was actually a long ad for the creator's expensive freelance writing course. It feels like EVERYONE is selling some kind of course or guide or coaching services these days.

I didn't hit my book goal this year, so I made myself feel better by deciding book goals are dumb.

Also I shared some of my favorite reads from 2024.

I've only been back to work for like an hour and I'm already over it.

Since the first season we watched together, my husband and I have referred to The Ultimatum as The Ol' Tomato. It's stupid and we laugh every time we say it. Also everyone on that show is insane. And I love it.

Ugh. Literally just launched a Substack like a month and a half ago lol. Theoretically makes it easier to move, but it takes so much time getting everything set up.

Beyond the fact that Bari Weiss is the worst, clearly Substack is moving its focus to big publishers, which sucks for solo writers.
Substack choosing Bari Weiss's The Free Press as its official partner for a relaunch tells you everything you need to know about the values of Substack's leadership. I'm begging the writers I love to move their newsletters off Substack.

I took my first creative writing class this year. I was excited, but also terrified to admit I was trying. But those six weeks changed me as a writer. They made me more confident, less afraid. They made me want to keep trying.
