Phrases that mean I'm about to lie to myself:

“I’ll just read one more chapter.”
“I’ll go to bed early tonight.”
“This time, I won’t overthink it.”
“I won’t buy any more books until I finish my TBR.”
“I’ll respond to that text later.”

I am not “avoiding responsibility,” I am romanticizing procrastination.

“One more chapter” is how I end up sleep-deprived and emotionally unstable.

I love when a book hurts my feelings. I rate that pain five stars.

Writing Habits That Seem Productive But Are Just Procrastination
1. Making a playlist for my characters.
2. Researching historically accurate ways to kill someone (for the plot, I swear).
3. Deciding I need a new notebook to “get into the right headspace.”

You ever say, “I have nothing to wear,” while staring at a closet that has personally betrayed you?

Things in my book I stole from other works:

1. MURDER - stolen from the Bible when Cain kills Abel
2. ENEMIES TO LOVERS - stolen from Stockholm Syndrome
3. THE DARK WEB - stolen from the US government trying to pin down criminals in the 90s

My toxic trait is thinking I can finish a 500-page book in one night just because I have vibes.

A reminder that fiction — books, film, games, what have you — is always political. The willful absence of “politics” in any work is itself a political choice and a political act. Who gets to tell (and sell) stories is political. It might be an undercurrent — covert, not overt. But it’s there.

This is fascinating and eye-opening.
I see a lot of people talk about the environmental costs of AI. I don't see as much about the human exploitation behind it.

In this season of querying, I find it really rejuvenating to write personal essays on Substack… I thought it’d drain my creative brain but it’s created an outlet for me excavate my feelings and put my effort into something positive. That was a nice surprise 😅 #amwriting #amquerying
