It’s stunning how badly all the other outlets soft-pedaled the body-cam footage, missing virtually every important detail in their stories about the it. Now that it has been ruled a homicide, I hope other outlets pay better attention. Grateful to be able to cover this for the Beat.

Absolutely dangerous and insane that we're letting this happen. The courts letting Trump do this in L.A. in response to minor unrest -- and where Marines are *still* activated -- has emboldened him to do it everywhere. This is a clear, unambiguous breach of a founding democratic principle.
Trump is deploying 200 Marines to support his secret police force in Florida in actions targeting immigrants... as he increases the militarization of this effort.

I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE.

This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.

It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

With this vote, Congress makes ICE the highest-funded federal law enforcement agency in history, with more money per year at its disposal over the next four years than the budgets of the FBI, DEA, ATF, US Marshals, and Bureau of Prisons combined.

I’d suggest the essays in “Between Past and Future,” which include some of her best prose—Benjamin-esque at moments—and are so crucial for all our current crises and pretty easily accessible.
Several people on BlueSky asked me how to begin reading Hannah Arendt’s works.
So as not to get imtimidated by her most famous book, The Origins of Totalitarianism, I recommend starting with something a little more topical: "Crisis of the Republic." Then jump to The Human Condition, and if you're still in the boat after that read The Origins of Totalitarianism.

We've been on the Senate floor for 25 hours fighting this awful bill.

Republicans have blocked us at every step — while rewriting the bill behind closed doors to strong-arm their members into cutting health care for 17 million people to pay for billionaire tax cuts.

Shameful.
