The talk series is back after a summer break! 🌞 Join us Aug 28 at noon ET / 6 PM CET for a fascinating session with the academic power duo @dorahermes.bsky.social & Kai Miller! 🧠✨ They’ll explore how single-pulse signals reveal biomarkers and map brain connectivity. Don’t miss it!

🚨Funded PhD studentship co-supervised by me and @matthewwself.bsky.social. Using neuropixels, behaviour, viral tracing and optogenetics you’ll study how visual areas enhance target representations vs background to support goal-oriented actions.

Our paper is out in Nature.

By examining various inputs to the motor cortex during learning, we found that thalamic inputs learn to activate the cortical neurons encoding the movement being learned.

Tour de force by Assaf in collab with Felix and Marcus. Congrats!

Motor learning refines thalamic influence on motor cortex - Nature
Imaging and optogenetics in mice provide insight into the interplay between the primary motor cortex and the motor thalamus during learning, showing that thalamic inputs have a key role in the executi...

Friends don't let friends make bad graphs repo has been updated!

Friends don't let friends use histogram for small sample sizes. Bin numbers affect the appearance of histograms, thus not robust to small (and modest sample sizes). They stabilize w/ large sample sizes.

Hella cool work! Underlying mixed selectivity population coding is a mix of static and dynamic coding that differs by cell type.

First post on Bluesky! We recently published our latest work on the neural mechanisms of deep-brain stimulation (DBS). We investigated this by combining calcium imaging and internal-capsule DBS in freely-behaving compulsive and "normal" mice. Freely available! www.nature.com/articles/s41...
