I dont know enough about the statistic side to have an opinion on that and i can see how you could generate data that mimicks the real world, but fundamentally, coming back to the beginning of the thread, it still is mimicry.

the way i understood it was: there is need for massive data sets to train market prediction models on. bc you cant find this amount of data, you create a bunch of smaller models which generate data points on the basis of real statistics. so down the line there is real data, but its diluted in unreal

and the crazy thing is: where do you even start to explain your issues with that? i hate how much it almost pushes you into an esoteric sounding corner, despite it just being "man maybe we should base our understanding of the world ON THE WORLD"

I was astonished when I learned that there were efforts to produce "made up" economic market data on the basis of economic statistics to feed and produce further models to predict markets... like, i am sure the statistics behind are as sound as they get but sth just feels... off?

When a chatbot gets something wrong, it’s not because it made an error. It’s because on that roll of the dice, it happened to string together a group of words that, when read by a human, represents something false. But it was working entirely as designed. It was supposed to make a sentence & it did.

True! Which in turn is just Pascals wager, which was dismissed by theologists themselves^^. It's such an easy way out of actual responsibilities and decision making, to postulate something as inevitable.

also the paragraph above is so strange: "its gonna happen anyways so we make it" is such a weird philosophical idea. like, no? we can construct what objects and processes we wanna live with?
