Note that Trump asked for IRS investigations in his first term too: Strzok, McCabe, Comey, and he interfered directly in IRS investigation of Hunter Biden.
This did not come up in Jack Smith's challenge to Trump's immunity claim, tho I raised it at the time.

If I was a judge and a DOJ lawyer filed a brief saying "yes, we mistakenly shipped someone with a right to be here to a foreign gulag but you have no power to order us to bring him back" I'd put that lawyer in jail until that person was brought back.
