We need a royal commission into defence’s mishandling of procurement and contract management, with the implementation of the ensuing recommendations to be overseen by a PM&C-led taskforce. We also need a competent “Australian oriented’ defence minister www.crikey.com.au/2025/06/03/a...
Hegseth's Heroes lurch into action, but Australia's capability gap isn't weapons
The US defense secretary wants Australia to bloat its defence warchest with 3.5% of GDP funding. Where will that money come from? Hegseth and his supporters don't bother to say.

This graph is remarkably straightforward.
Today the total profits and labour costs etc for Australian industry sectors for 2023-24 was released.

It is quite revealing which sectors get the favourable treatment such as $215bn gift from the govt of free gas to sell....

Offsets do not prevent or undo the harms caused by burning fossil fuels for a customer's energy use.
They are a sham
Time to step up @chrisbowenmp.bsky.social

"offsets do not prevent or undo the harms caused by burning fossil fuels for a customer’s energy use. Even with carbon offsetting, the emissions released from burning fossil fuels for a customer’s energy use still contribute to climate change."
Today, EnergyAustralia has been forced to admit what @australiainstitute.org.au research has long shown: Carbon offsets are a total sham & do nothing to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Time for the govt to stop trumpeting them as the answer. They are not

Is Albanese up for it? Does Chalmers have a "passion for bold policy" to indulge? Does the country need it?

This should be the absolute bare minimum for any party serious on climate, yet we have to fight tooth and nail for it

There will be a day when it it seems wild that this was ever such a radical position to hold
We’re calling on the next Parliament to be brave, to put climate science back into climate policy, and stop opening new gas and coal mines in Australia.

In defiance of the science, our research shows that Australia is the world's 3rd largest fossil fuel exporter.

But the one group paying none of the costs are the giant fossil fuel exporters causing the problem in the first place

And if you are in Chisholm, the Liberal candidate Dr Katie Allen, voted to repeal the medivac legislation when she was an MP for Higgins.
She chose the party line over medical ethics.
If you needed another reason not to vote for her as your representative
Remember when Dutton refused to allow appropriate medical care for an 11 year old boy with a difficult fracture (after we’d trafficked him to a tiny island without proper medical care or education). Dutton spent millions of dollars fighting against bringing people to Aus for proper care. #auspol

Dutton is woefully incompetent. On every issue, his policies are clueless thought bubbles, lacking any planning or depth. They're worse than Morrison's policy announcements at pressers (that had zero actual legislative content or follow-up). Dutton's policies are dangerous. #auspol #AusVotes25

Australia's reaction to Trump’s tariffs should be to stop US firms repatriating profits in the resources and non-bank financial services and to tax them in Australia.
Australian resources, which are exhaustible, should be sold to benefit Australians and not given away as is currently happening.
The steel/aluminium tariffs are worth next to nothing. What will matter will be agriculture and pharmaceutical tariffs if they occur. Australia's reaction then should be on US firms repatriating profits in the resources and non-bank financial services sectors to the same value. Target 'incidence'
