“What on earth could this climactic story mean where a bioengineered condition means everyone Bond sleeps with has to die? I’m sorry I have a reading age of six.”

But since the Hero's Journey took over Hollywood, there's been a belief that the central character must have an "arc", must go through an experience that changes them. And that *breaks* infinite serialisation.

Or just have him start the next film alive and well and then at some point have someone be like "Bond! I thought you got blown up!" And then have him quip "you know better than to listen to rumors," or "what can I say? That was no time to die" and then absolutely refuse to explain further

Yeah, that would be genuinely interesting. Might be a mess, but definitely interesting 🙂

Also, the end of the US hegemony means the valorisation of the UK being a murderous lackey in whatever ideological war the US is engaging is a much less effective story engine than before. Modern era Bond inevitably becomes a hideous and pathetic figure as a result.

The obsession with continuity—and then doing it badly because that’s not how Bond works—was easily my least favourite part of the Craig Bonds.

There’s a lovely article here about them. Just if you’re interested. I bet goats have fallen on cars. Probably out of sheer belligerence.

Generative AI is the apotheosis of this process. It's praised for doing better than a human on certain tasks, but those tasks were *made for computer logic* in the first place.
The new world will try to convince you that this computer logic is more valuable than your human thought. Defy it.

It is shocking how audio transcription, translation etc have gotten SO MUCH worse in the past year, and there is really no way else but down for the companies

Instead, "AI" is completely in the thrall of billionaires and TESCREALists -- how else to explain anyone taking the paper-shaped objects out of corporate labs seriously?
