Cave life's not all bad for olms. They live *exceptionally* long lives for an amphibian (100 yrs!), possibly arising from the fact that they have no natural predators & have been known not to move for up to 7 years.

Just tiny pink dragons guarding their tiny water-filled caves for a century. 🐉💧

Olms may live for about century and appear to spend their time moving sparingly.

Hey, farmers/producers! You need to be seen, not just from the road! This winter, look at your digital footprint. Bet you don’t have much of one. Don’t have a website? Let’s get that goin for ‘26. Even just a simple landing page telling your community about your cute farm stand out front. Resources👇

Today is Transgender Day of Remembrance, a day when we honor the memory of those killed simply for being.
Violence comes from weapons & fists just as it can come from ink on paper.
Today, I remember Elisa Rae Shupe, a veteran lost to anti-trans policies.

I'm sad to share that the trans vet that took her life outside the VA last week was apparently Elisa Rae Shupe.

She's someone many of us know - she was responsible for the mass email leak that let us know how the ADF, Heritage, etc planned to enact trans eradication we see today.

RIP Elisa.

three years ago. I wish I could say it lost its relevance but on this Transgender Day of Remembrance, it feels more true than ever.

the existential threat of groundwater depletion is even more urgent during this AI boom and increased lithium mining to fuel EV batteries.

The Broken Earth trilogy is absolute fire, pun only a little intended.

If you haven’t had the absolute pleasure yet, show some love to your local bookstore or library and spend time this winter cozied up with a copy of The Fifth Season. I’m due for a reread, myself.

for folks who believe in supporting their local public radio station -

please consider helping out stations with a smaller listener base, especially those more remote communities where radio is a critical piece of local infrastructure

my takeaway after a decade as a first responder was that, above all else, we primarily responded to poverty.
Poverty is a public safety issue.

just diabolical. this administration is made up of the most chronically unlikeable ghouls.
In no specific order, here are all the issues with this requirement that come to mind in like 2 minutes before my break ends:

1. Requiring all recipients to reapply will need to happen over time not all at once to have a chance at not crushing state office's. Watch closely how it plays out

1/?
Trump administration will require SNAP participants to reapply for benefits
The move is part of USDA chief Brooke Rollins’ effort to overhaul the nation’s largest anti-hunger program and get rid of “fraud.”

Axolotls can regenerate severed nerves, damaged brain regions, and there's a lot for us to learn about how that works & possibly use it to improve human health.

But at the heart of it all is just a simple fact:
Axolotls are baby.
Axolotls can regrow limbs. Could they one day help us do the same?
A better understanding of how these amphibians grow new appendages may lead to better wound healing—or even new limbs—in humans.

The regime despises poor people, yes. And importantly it does not fear poor people as a political force. It's important to take both of these together to understand what they are doing with SNAP. They do not believe that they will incur lasting political costs for their current actions.

literal nightmare material for every kid in that daycare and this poor woman.

and for those who are moved by money more than morals -

we don’t talk about the care crisis this country is facing nearly enough. covid devastated our already strained child care and elder care systems.
I don’t know how many times I’ve watched this video.

I don’t know how we’ve gotten to the point where men in full balaclavas can abduct daycare teachers while they’re watching children.

But I do know that this isn’t sustainable. Abolish ICE. There is no way to reform this.
