My take on the surge in Indian nationalism. Against Pakistan, and against Muslims and migrants at home. Whether through Modi's Hindutva, or the opposition's secular nationalism, the Indian ruling class asserts itself as the ambitious nation in South Asia.
Indian nationalism intensifies over Kashmir | Red Flag
From 7 May to 10 May, the working classes of India and Pakistan were held hostage by the Indian and Pakistani states. Artillery, missiles, drones and aircraft killed civilians on both sides.

New party in federal politics in Australia! About time for a left alternative to the moribund Greens!
For some time, we’ve had people asking when we are going to establish parties on the model of Victorian Socialists in other parts of Australia. That time has come. Join today at socialists.org.au.

Pakistan seeks greater control over minerals of Balochistan province, despite long running tensions and militancy in the region over spoils. Speculation that this is in preparation for a mining deal with the US.
Why the Balochistan Mines and Minerals Act Was Enacted Swiftly and Silently
The controversial law will undermine restive Balochistan’s rights over its mineral reserves.

Socialists oppose all the demands to Buy American, Buy Canadian or Buy Australian so beloved of trade union leaders. No to class collaboration and jingoistic nationalism!

Nor do we support 'free trade'. Both are strategies to advance capitalist interests, in different contexts.

Iran hawks in the Trump admin think Iran is at its weakest in decades and want to press home the advantage, to dismantle Iran's nuclear program and its ballistic missiles. Trump's belligerence on Iran since February have raised the stakes.
Is Iran on a collision course with the west?
Time is running out for an unpredictable US president and a distrustful Iranian supreme leader to avoid dangerous escalation

Agree with this thread by Victorian Socialists. States around the world are ramping up military buildup for war. It's up to the left to stop that. We're not gonna do that by offering a more credible plan for that buildup.

Greens wanna run the system more credibly. Socialists want to end it.
A disappointing announcement from the Greens. The history of past arms races shows clearly: you won’t win a peaceful world by investing in weapons and war, however much you claim it to be for ‘purely defensive’ purposes (arms spending is almost always justified in this way). 🧵
