The whole point of fiction is to make shit up. If the machine is doing the make believe, you’re effectively an editor, and that’s already a thing you can be.

Make it up or go find something to edit, but release your reliance on the earth-destroying water guzzler.
This should be illegal.
EXCLUSIVE: We found that Instacart is using AI algorithms to charge customers different prices for the same items.

It's not just online. It's in physical grocery stores too.

Our months-long investigation with @consumerreports.org and @groundwork.bsky.social found it could cost families $1200/year.

People talk about social constructs as if they’re equivalent to gravity.

“That’s just the way things are.”

No, it’s not. It’s how we’ve made them. We can change things.

Since making art is essential, artists should keep doing it. However, whether they share or withhold it is another a personal decision. Especially since the collective we is so damn entitled.

Of course I decide to get into writing right as the AI goblin is regurgitating everything ever written at warp speed.

Maybe being in a state of dread is when I feel most alive. ✨

I was talking to my friend about injustice the other day. He made the point that sometimes people intentionally go out of their way to not understand or remain ignorant. I’m realizing some Americans want to be ignorant of US foreign policy. Many don’t care about anyone but themselves.

This will still be relevant 200 years from now, so it’s off to a great start.
Starting my great American novel:

It was the stupidest of times. It was the, again to be clear, stupidest of times.

Will try this the next time I’m in an awkward situation.

I’m so tired of these mergers. I’ve yet to see one benefit customers or employees. Not ever.
as you dig through coverage of the Netflix Warner Bros merger, play a little game with me:

notice how many of them mention, at ALL, the two decade history of disastrous previous Time Warner mergers, and the massive layoffs, price hikes, and quality erosion that resulted

Oh and for all the KPop Demon Hunters fans who are curious to know...

It’s been 0 days since I listened to What It Sounds Like without crying.

Now I gotta go back and rewatch the whole thing because I am confusion and I need concrete answers to distract me from the chaotic messiness of real life.
Apparently many of you have never heard about this. Cobb tells Ariadne never to share your totem with anyone...and then tells her about the top? The top is a misdirect. Watch his hands. When he wakes up, he checks his hands. In his dreams he's still married (ring); in real life she's dead (no ring.)
*sighs deeply*

*Engages Reply Guy mode*

*Pushes glasses up nose*

Actually...

...the ending of INCEPTION isn't ambiguous. The top isn't his totem; it's his wedding ring and the final shot very clearly reveals whether or not the movie was real or a dream. In this essay I will...

You know, I'm thinking about how it's...like...just this perfect underlining of how insane our system is

We have lots of people who love to draw, write, do music - lots of humans will do this...FOR FREE. we LOVE to do this stuff

On Black Friday weekend, you CAN in fact:

- Buy nothing
- Donate to charity
- Support your favorite indie businesses so they can continue to exist 💕

If that's Pagebound 🥹 you can make a one-time contribution or a $10/month commitment by clicking the crown icon in the Pagebound app/web nav bar 💐

A couple of weeks ago, I decided to take a Meta break. Deactivated my IG and deleted the app and Threads off of my phone.

Of course, it prompted me to sign out instead of deactivating. My income isn’t tied to being on there though, so there wasn’t a huge hurdle.

Has he ever tried using it? Do these people actually use the internet? Serious question.
What a great headline

I love Pagebound. It’s been the BEST place to find people who are interested in chatting about books.

There’s no AI. Self-promo is limited/restricted so engagement farming is minimized. The founders actually engage with people and are working to add new features.
I've been using the Pagebound app alongside Goodreads and StoryGraph.

I KNOW. Three apps is a lot, but they all sort of serve a different purpose for me. Goodreads for reviews/info. StoryGraph for stats. And Pagebound does seem to deliver on the promise of just casually chatting about the books.

This book was originally published in 1985. The copy I have is a revised edition published in 1993.

The people who use woke and DEI as slurs and who think it’s some modern phenomenon reveal their ignorance.
Rigid roles diminish every member of a society. So do the lingering hidden assumptions of republics founded on a slave economy. The deep inequities reach every corner of the land and the heart.

Almost done with this, and it’s been very insightful. If you’re struggling with writer’s block, it’s worth the read.

This is probably a skill issue/operator error on my part, but every social media app I try is damn near unusable.

Between the bots, prolific use of AI, and only caring about people with status, most posts are presented to crickets.

There’s less noise out in the real world.

At first, we all dislike the art we make precisely because it looks like we made it.
By removing ourselves, we remove what makes art worthwhile to begin with.

Anything that’s worth owning is worth having a physical copy. Most of the digital media we “own” today can be disappeared with the push of a button. It’s more renting than owning.
Had people say to me it's a waste to own physical media multiple times now, they'll all be in a landfill eventually.

I sincerely hope everyone saying pirates eveything cause I can't imagine the hellscape of only relying on currently streaming shows or only playing old games with current re-releases

Everyone probably already knows this, but Cory Doctorow is hilarious!

I’d heard his name and the term enshittification before, but Internet Archive’s book talk was the first time I heard him speak.

Glad I got to attend live.
