@toddrg.bsky.social next year's Christmas card?
It's time! Behold the Christmas hedgehog! From Verdun, Bibl. mun., ms. 0107, f. 008. Our thanks as always to @etreharne.bsky.social who found her.

A box I have been keeping for three years perfectly fit a gift I am giving this Christmas, I am going to ascend bodily into heaven.

I had a dream about the Christmas treat normally called "crack" (crackers or pretzels with crunchy caramel and chocolate on top) and they had been given the new name "Delightful Combinations" and I would like to make my dream come true.

Finally checked the lyrics of "Il Est né le Divin Enfant" and today I learned this song has been enjoining me to play the oboe.

when I moved into my own apartment, I decorated a mini tree for Christmas, and made ornaments out of tiny bottles from the dollar store and stuff I had on hand. I thought it was pretty likely these sprinkles would melt in the bottle after a year, so I sealed it really well. That was 10 years ago!

Wow! this sewing pattern is so simple! I better add a bunch of stuff to it that makes it incredibly complicated!

I was asked to read a poem at an event this weekend. I want to do a good job, so I am looking at the pdf I received from the organizers. I had been dreading the event, but getting into the poem, spending time with it, is changing my mind.
At the top of my screen is a note from Adobe.

I have been listening to audio books of early Poirot stories, and it is incredible that people let this guy solve their mysteries. Yes, ok, he figured out who did the murder or whatever, but he also repeatedly refers to himself in the third person as "Papa Poirot"

When the usage of this phrase began to trend up when I was a teen, a teacher wowed us with the secret knowledge that there had, once upon a time, been a literal "gong show."
I genuinely had no idea this was a Canadianism
When a Canadian says “It’s a bit of a gong show down there," what are they talking aboot? defector.com/how-a-campy-...

Seeing this post made me think about hometown (which is broadly hated-upon) and how it's linguistic quirks make me love it and feel at home here. So, Happy World Linguistics Day from the land where the first syllable in "tiger" is the same vowel sound as in "bag" (Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada)
Happy World Linguistics Day from Montreal, Canada!

(I wonder how many different places we can get world linguistics day wishes from this year!)

Why is it that LinkedIn has games now? Did the LinkedIn people get tired of talking about business?

if any sci fi sound designers are interested, the fifth floor stairwell at my work sounds like an alien pipe organ is playing a single interminable chord for some reason. Could be cool.

It's ok I am grieving in my own way (Listening to the new Mountain Goats album while taking out the warm winter clothing)

I had a birthday cake today and I am sick so I didn't want to blow my candles out. I did a kind of chopping motion in the air over the cake and it was so much more satisfying to feel like a ninja! I recommend this as the new standard for adults with birthdays.

I was reflecting on this page of "Big Joe's Trailer Truck" (by Joe Mathieu. Random House, 1974.) and wondering why diners have this distinctive look. Looked at Wikipedia and found out that some of the earliest ones were re-purposed train dining cars!

A great piece of advice I got a while ago was to put the Wikipedia app on my phone's home screen. I have gotten in the habit of using that to search when I want to know something (and Google less often)

Every day in Adventure Bay:
Citizen 1: oh God, a fire! Should we call 911?
Citizen 2: Naw, I think we should call that kid
Citizen 1: The kid with all the-
Citizen 2: With the dogs, yeah

I was definitely not emotionally equipped for the Raffi concert
- finished a task that was stressing me out
- have a headcold
- hormones are hormoning

These are the conditions (apparently) under which "Photograph" by Nickelback will get me choked up

When my child grows up, she is probably going to have a moment when she says, "Wow, my mom sacrificed so much for me. And she complained about all the time."
