What it says on the label. Interested in late 15th C with a focus on the Wars of the Roses but promotes anything medieval of interest. All photos are our own unless otherwise listed.

We admit it. We are one day late for the Family Day holiday. But that is no excuse not to post this excellent painting of the Holy Family at home. MS M.917/945

I propose to make universal the old policy of the Blackfriars conference at the American Shakespeare Center:

If you do not end your paper on time, you will be forced to exit, pursued by a bear. Literally, a bear will come take your paper from you.

Are there any Chaucerians, particularly those interested in "the Chaucer Circle," thinking about going to the MAA in Toronto in 2027?

I usually avoid the conference (not my bag), but with Kzoo off-limits till 2029 or so, this might be a nice chance to see folks.

Thanks to an invitation from the Worcestershire Branch of the Richard III Society, some members from our branch enjoyed a talk from @gemmahauthor.bsky.social on women in the middle Ages. We were able to see some wonderful illustrations!

Second linocut comes from the tomb of Richard Beauchamp, Earl of Warwick (d. 1439) at St Mary’s Church, Warwick. I was struck by the bear emblem for the Earl of Warwickshire. This tomb was an essential visual source for the special subject I taught on - 'Joan of Arc and her Age:1419-31'.

I had great fun bringing together material from @virtualtreasury.bsky.social with the England's immigrants database to look at people immigrating to and between England and Ireland in the middle ages.
“Humans have been on the move to and among these islands for as long as we have records and as far back as we can see in the archaeology.”

In the latest for Broadsides, @elizabethbiggs.bsky.social draws on the England's Immigrants Project to explore medieval migration to England & Ireland.

Nice piece by @racheldelman.bsky.social on women and falconry. Obviously Cecily duchess of York's choice of the falcon on her seal was in tribute to her husband (and his grandfather), so pretty traditional there, but I do love this particular image of her from the Wigmore Chronicle.
