I also would like to thank @niqaeli.bsky.social for sharing their concerns on this matter. I wouldn’t have known about these issues or concerns without both of their gracious (but not thankless) comments. Not trying to single anyone out except that they’re both decent folks who let me know better.

Specifically and especially to @rahaeli.bsky.social, I apologize and will try to do better in the future. Not sure if you’ll see this, or that you’ll care if you do, but just putting that out into the universe. I hear you and take your words to heart.

A lesson to me: aesthetics and representation are subordinate concerns to being heard, understood, and perceived to begin with. No one owes me acknowledgement or approval, and I respect all who give me the time of day. I’m sorry that I lost this person, as I generally want to be friends with folks.
January 27, 2024 at 10:26 PM
I genuinely feel a sense of loss over folks blocking me, as that seems like an overreactive nuclear last resort, but I respect their decision either way. I just had no idea screenreader usage was that common or that it was so divisive.

These are legitimate points that I’m glad you took the effort to make.

Good points, though I think that zalgo text is illuminating what I perceive to be bugs in screenreader implementations, but I take your point and view my usage of zalgo text in names on social media in a different light thanks to your earnest desire to communicate your needs and wants.
January 27, 2024 at 10:09 PM
I don’t think that representation is worthy of this ire, and I’m sorry you feel upset by my comments on this matter. Really, actually, genuinely: I apologize. I don’t use screenreaders. I just like how zalgo text looks. It’s an aesthetic choice that isn’t for everyone and I respect your timeline.

If my legal name was as I originally posted it, what would you have me do? I’m genuinely curious and apologize for doing anything less than inspiring joy and curiosity in you or anyone my name’s formatting may have caused. I share your concerns re: screenreaders but representation also matters.

I changed it, as I respect your opinion more than how my name is formatted, but I would appreciate less prescriptivist framing. You’re the second person to make such a (imo unreasonable) request in the last hour, which feels (to me) like strongarming/brigading. Not accusing you of that, just a vibe.

It’s intentionally that way for legitimate opsec concerns. I appreciate you mentioning your concerns. Diacritics are commonly occurring in names and are part of how people choose how they are perceived by others. What would you have me change it to, if that’s my legal name?
January 27, 2024 at 9:52 PM
Substitute automated systems for people in the above thread and the point also holds. I didn’t know you had such strong feelings on my specific opsec implementation, its contours and failure modes. I respect your genuine opinions and beliefs, but your advice comes off as presumptive/prescriptive.

It’s not worse for people who don’t know how usernames work or how to search by them, but do know my real name.

I appreciate these concerns, but it’s an intentional informed choice to foil lazy doxxing/spamming/OSINT, though I use the same username most places. Tools like the one I link below exist and are used for both good and ill, as I have seen in my both personal and professional life.

I also particularly like Exit Through the Gift Shop, which while not French per se, revolves around a French subject.

I haven’t read the book yet, but plan to. What was the significance of silver re: China?

The clean energy boom marks a major pivot in China’s macroeconomic strategy, with the real estate sector contracting and investment shifting into manufacturing - primarily clean energy manufacturing. Local governments, state-owned enterprises and private capital all shifted.

The largest contributors to growth were solar power, EVs, energy storage and rail transportation, which all saw strong growth both in investment and in production of goods and services.
