Where do I find all the tech and ex-teachers people who took up sewing?

Thinking that might be my craft for next year.

Early in the Jiajing Emperor's reign, there was a cat in the Forbidden City with fine, curly fur that was all slate-grey save for two eyebrows of the purest white, for which the cat was named Frostbrows. (1)
also this, from 宛署雜記; will translate this afternoon if I get a minute:

The Cat Office employed three or four attendants to feed cats of recognized status. Favorites of the Emperor received promotions: males were styled “pages;” females, “maids;” neutered cats were addressed in the manner of senior eunuchs.

So I'm leaving my job, effective in a few weeks.

Mostly I'll be working on activism stuff, which is super exciting (more to share soon).

But I also need a tech side project to keep my skills sharp. Having given up X/HN, I'm out of the loop.

So: what exciting things should I be learning now?

Can't believe we ended up with the Type of Guy who is really into Roman history and also thinks we should shut off the grain dole

When we could have had the Type of Guy who is really into Roman history and thinks we should make a go at land reform

This is so easy:

He washes up on shore, with full amnesia and no memory of who he is. The first person to find him (Hugh Grant) nurses him back to health on a diet of whodunnit mysteries. He develops an awkward Southern drawl.

MI6 needs his help taking down the world's richest person.
James Bond’s death in No Time to Die is causing a nightmare for the next film. Writers are stuck because Bond “was blown to pieces.”

Anthony Horowitz, author of three 007 novels, says:

“You can't have him wake up in shower and saying it was all a dream."

Friday night, so it’s Picture Fight! time in our house. I normally lose pretty badly, but this Teenage Grogu‘s First Starfighter turned out pretty good.

I was once a young, very Catholic man, so I know with absolute certainty that JD Vance has already picked out a Latin reign-name that he intends to use.

And I wouldn't be shocked it it was "Constantine".

My take: the current crop of MAGA anti-Trump media is the start of both the Russia- and tech-aligned subgroups of the coalition preparing for the transition to Vance.

There will be a moment that feels like a step forward because Trump is out, but will actually be the start of the real conflict.

I’m sitting at a progressive “election watch party for introverts” here in Atlanta and vibes are so good people are actually introducing themselves to each other.

Today I walked 5 of the 15 miles of the Atlanta #UniteInLight route, talking to everyone who came out to protest against the administration’s cruel policies and in favor of basic decency and keeping our democracy.

I thanked them for being out and asked them to vote, protest, and build community.
